So Ben and I hit the open road this afternoon to get one of my '59s ready for the trek homeward, about 2 hours away.... The weather was fairly uncooperative; light rain, dark skies, some wind, but things seemed to shape up right before the sun headed west. And what else do you do when you cruise through small towns along the way? You keep your eyes peeled for old cars and appliances!

With a keen eye, Ben pulled yet another doubleback to what appeared to be a pile of old appliances....Check out those poor Maytags! All TOL models with glass backsplashes. You could tell they were in mint shape (especially the lettering and control paint) until the city got ahold of them and dumped them.

Lint Trap in Mint Shape!

And the final, unpolished shot! As far as we can tell, all it needs is a replacement agitator solenoid. Both motor speeds work, the timer functions, the spin solenoid latches (and with a new bulb) she lights! Only problem is the front is dinged up, maybe something else interchanges?

If there are any SQ fans out there who'd like to work a trade, this one is up for grabs : )

Great job Cory and Ben!

Another great classic 59 Cadillac, and a really nice Speed Queen too!
You guys make a good "tag team" finding and restoring all those classic treasures. And the friendship you guys have is truly priceless also, speaking of treasures. :)

Rick

COOL

Baeutiful.. all of them.

The yellow version of my momma's first gas Maytag lying on its side... Notice filter in rear of drum. Love the center control-timer 'tags!

RE: Speed Queen Filter (looks like a GE Filter-flo) obviously there is a recirculating water-flow. From which corner of the cabinet? I don't think it's a burp-o-lator style agitator.

Oh the Cadillac's great. How is it overall?. And the timer dial Radarange..dang, that's a must have, too bad it was far gone. Now I've seen the SQ lint filter I'll know what one is if I see one anywhere.

YAY!!! '59 Cadillac and solid-tub SQ all in one day!!!! Congratulations guys!

Robert recently sold a '65 like this one...cool machine. The filter is a Burpalator-style that fits on the agitator.

Steve,

There is no water circulation in the Speed Queen. The filter works by picking up a layer of water under itself and filtering it. Click on the link and go to the bottom of the page. There are three movies called "Speed Queen Filter", "More Speed Queen Filter" and "Speed Queen Filter Overflow". These movies were made by Dadoes at the 2001 Convention. I'm not sure, but I think it is my laundry in there. (Not that it matters LOL)

Thanks for the link. Nice pics.

Louis there you are ..on your knees..in "Visitation Begins" and with an ear-to-ear smile...ostensibly genuflecting in front of and venerating the Westy slant-front.

HMMMMMM. LOL. ROFL

Can't wait ...can't wait... can't wait for Convention 05.

Oh My!

Love the Caddy! Cool Speed Queen. Wish I could find the lighted control panel those Maytags had!
