So I've noticed that some of these front loaders have a completely "flat" horizontal axis washtub...whereas some are at a "tilt". Which is best? Thanks...

...an easy question to answer really....and it partly will come down to a persons experience with both (to be able to give a valid answer) and the type of machines they had...
Hoover, Electrolux and Bosch have or do make tilted machines, as do many more manufacturers today...
I've only had experience as a user of true, horizontal access machines....so don't feel I can justifiably comment...

Cant really say that one is better than the other
I have had both and some of the commerical machines are tilted also. but as to which one is better I am not sure one is really any better than the other. The tilted machines force the load more to the back of the tub during extract and try to make it easier to balance. Is my understanding of the feature. Or that is what Milnor tells us.

Some people here and on THS laundry forum write that in tilted tubs those clothes close to the door hardly get wet, cause the "pool" of water is far behind
IMHO also proper distribution and balancing before spinning are more problematic in the tilted design
Bearings last longer in true horizontal design, as there is radial stress only versus radial plus axial in the tilted design). You won't see any tilted commercial machine ... unless very big ones (500 Kg or more) that tilt to download over transport belts, but wash/spin with no angle

I've owned both types. I don't know if being perfectly horizontal has anything to do with it, but I've noticed with that type, after final spin when the tub rotates slowly to loosen the clothes from the sides, it's an exercise in futility. The machine in question is a Frigidaire Affinity. When we had a Whirlpool Duet, that one had the tilted tub and the clothes always loosened up nicely after final spin. I'm not 100% sure, but the Affinity may have a spin speed of 50 rpm faster than the Duet. Whether the speed or the tilt have anything to do with the clothes sticking to the sides, I don't know, but that's my $.02 observation on tilted vs. non.

I prefer the upright as oposed to the tilted because they get the wash cleaner and tangle less.They're also a bit more fun to watch.However,most of the newer modes that I,myself prefer DO have the tilted tubs.

I have tilted now (Bosch Nexxt) and I would prefer horizontal because of the back-loading (piling) issues described above. And, in spite of its tilt, it still gets kids stocks lodged between the drum and the boot...
