That is an amazing find Greg!!!!

Greg!
That is a beauty if I ever saw one! What a rare air-conditioner! I could not get over how fantastic it looked!
So you ran it? And it cooled? I would love to hear that compressor! I bet it is the best sound ever!
One thing though, and I am sure you know....Replace that cord!
Greg bet you were so excited when you found it! It is a beauty!
Thanks for the pictures!
Brent

Hi! I remeber those! I recall the blower was not all that powerful, but the cold air pours out so dense it was almost fluid! I remember on a hot and humid day you could actually see the frigid air pouring down to the floor when you first started to run the unit. Real nice find.

Neat A/C Greg! I`ve never seen one with the wood look cabinet like yours. It`s a beauty!

thanks all

Thanks all for your comments. I am so excited to find something so rare. Yea it is super quiet too, one fan speed and not a strong one like "gyrafoam" said. You can barely hear the compressor it is so quiet, but those coils get cold quick. The vent and exhaust doors are HUGE too !! not like the little tiny flaps today. It is rated as a "1 ton" so about 12,000 btu's and of course it weighs I think around 150lbs. I can't believe they use to put big units like this in the window.

Weighing so much it's no wonder the units from the early & mid 50's stuck just as far (if not more) inside the window as they did outside. Is this a 230 volt or a 110?

GE Compressors

If it's the same comp that's in their old fridges, it's gonna last forever. We still have our 48 GE Spacemaker fridge. Coldest Cokes in town.

Those new plastic LG made ACs can't even hold a candle to the old ones. Even a 70s Frigidaire AC can cool faster and better than the old ones.

volts

Its a 110, 20 amp ..... and thanks Jason, that is encouraging to hear about the compressor, it has alot of surface rust on the compressor case/shell/ whatever you call it. I was going to try and sand it down a little and repaint it black to basically just stop or slow the rust down. This AC has been sitting in a NON- climate controlled warehouse for almost 40+ years ............ I can't believe still that it worked just fine upon start up ........... just amazing to me ..........

Very nice find! This one looks older than my 1958 or 59 Coldspot that's still going strong. I know where there's a Philco Transitone AC from about 1959 but the owner hasn't decided whether to give it up yet.

GREAT FIND!!!

Looks GREAT! I've been looking for a vintage ac myself to go in my vintage home, those white plastic cheap-o-s- just are NOT my style!
I agree Great find- You will definaltly enjoy that!!!
