Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I agree with you, but in Hobart's defense,

back then lots of families had their house hot water heater set to 180(so everyone could get a hot shower in the morning, mostly); so by the time the water filled for the main wash cycle and the parts and dishes were all warmed up, heating the water wasn't that critical. When the energy crisis occurred and people were first advised to lower the water thermostat to 140, I remember people being appalled.

Around that time I did a semester abroad in Europe and learned that all dishwashers and washers had internal heaters because energy prices there were enormous compared to the US. That was when I first met and fell in love with my first Miele(up to that point I had thought that Maytag was the state of the art).I had a British friend whose mother had one of those old Wallace and Grommit water heaters in her house that you had to operate with coins!

Yes Well Am Here To Tell You

Did another load in the Mobile Maid yesterday and will be fitting that insulation saved from the 18" Kenmore before it runs again. On such a nice cool NYC evening as yesterday the kitchen became *very* uncomfortably warm from the MM doing all that heating.

The MM does not do all of that much heating. I think that the heating element raises the water temperature maybe 1 degree F during each minute that it is on, but it does not hold the timer until a target temp is reached. If it is on all during the cycle, it is adding a bit of heat to each fill, but not so much that you should notice a difference in the kitchen from the washing and rinsing portions of the cycle; the dry with the escaping water vapor, perhaps. With a single wall tank, how are you planning to use insulation on it?

Top Loading Portable DWs

Hi Laundress, I offered you a KA TL Portable DW that had a heater, that worked, cheap. Fortunately Mike [ dishwasher-crazy ] rescued it, but even these KAs had single wall tubs so they are hot and loud.

I am going to replace the Coppertone KD-5 KA DW that is the auxiliary 3rd DW in my kitchen with a 1969 Inglis [ WP ] TL portable with REAL thermal holds in the main wash and last rinse and this one has a double wall insulated tub. This DW will be a combination of a minty one from Robert and the Inglis is from Paul in Canada. I am going to have my partner paint the machine a cherry red color to match the ref and freezer in the pantry.

Yes Combo52 I Know

But now that the MM deal is done can reveal had been in contact with the seller going back and forth on the thing for the weeks it was on fleaPay. After requesting much information and otherwise pestering the guy just felt *wrong* to suddenly leave him high and dry to go with something else. Hope you aren't offended.

Have to admit if a Whirlpool TL portable came up locally probably couldn't resist. Nothing is wrong with the MM performance wise thus far, just like the idea of a true thermal hold and other features those units bring to the table.
