Another one saved from the scrapper.

Just scored this DE102 yesterday. Craigslist find.The couple I got it from said it's been in their family since around 1962 and were giving it away since they had no use for it anymore and it was just taking up space. They wanted to make sure it went to a good home,so after I told them that I'd be driving a few hours and hundreds of miles to get it, they were pretty convinced I wasn't just some scrapper telling them what they wanted to hear.

I haven't had a chance to plug it in to see if it works yet but they claimed they were using it pretty recently and it worked great. They also mentioned the heating element was replaced about 20 years ago but other than it's been trouble free.

I'm guessing it's from '62? Can anyone confirm?

I was also actually a little surprised (and slightly disappointed) to see that this model doesn't have a panel that illuminates... Couldn't really tell in the pic they had posted but when it's free you usually have nothing to lose anyway so I didn't ask to many questions...

I'm wondering is it possible to swap the control panel from another dryer of the same era that illuminates?

The control panel is in really good shape; most times that matte section is discolored or stained.  Nice save!

MX = October, 1964

Looks like they were off by a couple of years.  "MX" at the end of the serial number means that this dryer was built in October, 1964.

figuring out month & year...

you can find out when you appliance was made, with the serial number, by the 2 letters at the end of the serial number. and looking on the appliance411 website.
you put in the information to find out month & year of production.

These 02 series dryers (and washers) were made from '64 to '65. While this was the base model, it still does almost everything, performance wise, the upper series dryers do.

The highlander to panels never did have panel lights. Unfortunately, the lighted panels from the 700/900 series dryers won't adapt to the highlander series dryers.

Don't despair. You saved a piece of history. Enjoy it!

Darn, no panel adaptation for lighting. I'd attach a magnetic LED strip , just to get the effects. Does that qualify as being a redneck or just innovative? LOL! Congratulations and saving a piece of history is great.
