Another Super Unimatic Video

A big thanks goes out to little Fred (HooverWheelAway) who took such great photographs of the VCCC convention back in August, we just found some video of the Super Unimatic that he took as well. YAY Fred, thank you so much!

You can see the washer wash, drain the cabinet, then spin out and drain the suds, then spin up to 1140, perform the spray rinses as well as the start of the "Coast 'n Spray period" and the final rinse agitation. You can hear just a few of the many silly sound effects that I have the washer do with each function.

Super Unimatic

Oohh that take me back, nice one Fred for the footage and Robert for the editing....It really is a fab machine to see through a full programme, the extra detail like the 3 flush detergent dispenser, the "Spray Sudz Away" window washer, the re-circulation hot sudzy fill. The "Samantha Sounds"and the linked "Wash Prog Monitor System" for Final Countdown....

Infinate wash programmes & Loads of fun, looking forward to more vids!!!Cheers, Mike

p.s Of course the machine was the Bell o the Ball and didnt she know it, we`d stagger into the Laundry Room next morning after our late night what not & cocoa and there she was...bedecked in whatever was around...AMAZING

Programme Updates!!!

One Night , whilst the owner was out at the gym working off his cottage cheese, a mad englishman was seen tinkering around its controls, just a few tweeks, joined the thingy, soldered the wotchit and fused the ratchet!!!

Since then it refuses to wash unless "Hi Sudz UK Persil" is poured in, and at midpoint in the cycle the drum turns horizontal and is heard to shout "Bendixxi Bendixxi" whenever the owner comes near!!!

Robert thanks for posting this wonderful footage that Fred S. took at Greg's. I love the sound effects, especially the Let's Make a Deal harp. (At least I'm pretty sure it was Let's Make a Deal. It may have been from the Price is Right.) Robert, it's great fun to hear you providing a narrative of the action along with the other background banter. And, Mike... I love your wicked sense of humor.

Really looking forward to more videos of this machine! You will never see a bobbing agitator, a jet-circle spray, and a Spin-Out drain in modern day Top-Loading washers. I can't wait until Unimatic1140 begins his dream Front-Loader!

...And then on the second night of the three-day party, the SU2 decided to bejewel herself up as a Bendix. Even sneaking my Bendix sign up from the basement! Fully in character, she insisted on only Rinso Blue and a pre-soak cycle be run before she would Assured Rinse the suds away.

She does like to party, that one!

BTW, the bobble-head dog in the panel is the off-balance indicator...when his head starts to bob up and down, stop the machine and redistribute the clothes and re-start.

The cool part of this machine is how clean the clothes are when finished - just amazing. Thanks for taking the video shots Fred - seems like we were all there just yesterday!

At least someone is amused Fred! I try to build a nice machine for everyone's enjoyment and look what happens, it gets ruined! Hmmmph LOL. All of you are in big trouble missies!

A little background for people who weren't at the vacuum convention wash in, Greg had some clean, dry cleaning rags that I believe were last washed in the Calypso. We decided to rewash them in the Super Unimatic without using any detergent. Lo and behold the entire outer cabinet filled up with suds even without putting in one drop of detergent! It was simply amazing to see how poorly some of these modern machines rinse, granted cleaning towels are particularly difficult to get rinsed out.

If have found (with lots of experimenting with the software/cycles) rinsing in the Super Unimatic instead of using a final overflow rinse, use a 2 minute spray rinse where the tub is coasting down from 1140rpm. The big difference in a spray rinse in a solid basket washer is that the water that lands at the bottom or middle of the wash load has to ride all the way up through the clothes to reach the exit holes. This is a more efficient use of water as the same water reaches all of the clothes as opposed to just part of the load. In a perforated tub washer the water would just hit the clothes and go right out through the sides of the tub. Unlike vintage detergents, modern powdered detergents such as Tide and Cheer leave a white residue on the side of many washer tubs at the end of the cycle. With the 2 minute jet-circle spray I have found that this completely clears the side of the tub of any residue and the final rinse water is usually completely clear.
