(last time I looked,) but no room! Would have to undergo major remodeling. I don't think my landlord would be interested in that.

A great fridge. Modern Parts could have the freezer gasket, or perhaps it can just be removed and put back upside down like I did (temporarily -- I have OEM replacements on the way from Modern) with my '57. This fridge could be had cheap if you don't have to ship it or rent a truck to pick it up.
I wonder why GE put 3 revolving shelves into the Combinations for those few years. As is evident in the photos, there is one shelf too many. I can't imagine my fridge having 3 spinners plus the stationary one up top. As it is, I can just barely get enough room out of the two spinners to fit 12-oz cans on one rack and short-neck beers on the other. Anything taller has to go on the top rack. A 3rd rack would be useless, it seems, but from what I saw when I was cleaning up my fridge, that extra rack can be removed.[this post was last edited: 7/14/2010-11:43]

I remember visiting relatives and friends in Mississippi who had their fridges in the dining room or on the porch (along with the wringer washer and deep freeze). Maybe a spot open in your bedroom, handy for your midnight snack.

Furthermore, the floor in the bedroom is carpeted, so it would have to go on 2x4s topped with plywood.

While I realize this won't help with feasibility issues, sitting on carpeting probably wouldn't matter with this model. I don't think they started putting the condenser coils on the bottom until the '57 model year.
I don't know that I'd want a frosty Combination for my main fridge anyway. As witnessed by my recent thread on defrosting the MW freezer, I'm not one to defrost as regularly as one should. It'll be interesting to see how often my Combo will need to be defrosted. I'd need a frostless model Combination if I were going to use one for my daily driver in the kitchen, but that'll never happen anyway. I've been spoiled by icemakers ever since I met my partner and he had a fridge with one.
