Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

WOOHOO!! Thanks for posting! That RPM counter is cool, especially when it's hit "Rapidry 1010"--Rollermatic speed! I'm willing to bet that F&P will eventually produce a machine that can spin at 1140!

I'd have to say that the F&P IWL12 is definitely my "modern dream machine" as well!

I want the GWL11 (or whatever it's called). It perfectly matches the top load dryer. And that's what I'm getting when I move out :-D.

Have credit card, will defeat the lid switch.

Hi Jason, That was a really neat video!! Got me to wondering how are you coming along with the DVD of the Omaha Convention this past summer? Terry

Warning -- Sacrilege Ahead!

1010 RPM on an F&P may be very close to 1140 on a unimatic, or possibly better (gasp!). What is the potential effect of a perforated/ribbed basket compared to a non-perfed basket? Also comes into play which one has a larger diameter. Being as the motor speed is run by the controller board ... anybody wanna try hacking a board?

Jason, keep in mind the programming/cycles/options differences between GWL11 and IWL12 when making your purchase choice. :-)

F&P has an "Intuitive Dryer" now on the NZ market to match the Intuitive Eco washer. Wonder how long until this model makes a journey across the ocean ....

Great video Jason - as always!

This is really quite a washer, I'm getting a little more convinced all the time that they are probably a better choice than most other t/l machines on the market right now! As I was pulling into a neighborhood this morning, a Nebraska Furniture Mart truck was on the street with it's rear door open preparing a new washer and dryer for delivery to a house a few doors down from where I was headed. I saw that the new machines being delivered were F&P washer and t/l dryer but I was even more curious as to what they were replacing since all the homes in this area are less than 2 years old. I skulked around a bit and was shocked to see a Maytag (samsung) Neptune f/l washer and dryer coming out of the house. I have no idea what the problems might have been with the Maytags, but it must have been something substantial, getting "The Mart" to take anything back is a huge ordeal.

I may have to put the F&P on my shopping list when I'm driving behind bLowes!

I watched the video a little closer, and noticed that's the cycle that ended with the "H" and "M" on the display and flashing lights (not shown) that aren't supposed to happen. I joked in a previous thread that H M means Help Me, after suffering through Bob-loads. I don't know what it means. Maybe Hot Motor? There's a fault code (on GWL08, and I assume successive models) for "hot tub" if a cycle ends without a proper cold rinse, but that load did rinse. IWL12 has a menu selection in diagnostic mode for Hot Tub, but I don't know what it does.

Jason, performance should be equivalent, except for any advantages on cycle options. IWL12 is more versatile for cycle options and adjustments, and has the programmed LifeCycles that can do temp combos and cycle sequences that aren't possible on the GWL11 except by button-pushing. Or not at all in some cases, such as the Sport/Muddy cycle that runs two deep rinses with (I think) a spin with sprays before both rinses, the 2nd deep rinse having a longer agitation than usual, and sprays in the final spin (I've not seen sprays in the final spin except on Muddy). GWL11 doesn't have the display to check RPMs in diagnostic mode, the actual and target temp for the mixing chamber, etc. (GWL11 does have a diagnostic mode, but no alphanumeric display.) The other main difference is IWL12 has the fabric sensing feature to automatically determine agitation action, GWL11 does not.

Interesting about the "H" and "M"...I don't think I saw that particular cycle; was that the "first Texas Wash-In load" done early in the afternoon? I can't even remember how many Bob-loads we did Friday night!!!

Well, I do have to admit that appearances are somewhat deceiving on the Unimatic. The Unimatic's tub is narrower at the opening/balance ring than it is at the base. From what I saw of the F&P tub, it seems narrower, or maybe that is because it's much deeper. It is worth noting that when loaded, the clothes sit higher up in the Unimatic than in any other machine I've seen, which makes for easy unloading as well!

Glenn, perhaps we need to have a "measure-off"!! Measure the approximate width of your IWL12's tub (does the agitator get in the way?)...now I'm off to do the same! :)

Then we can determine the winner...;-)

That was the 2nd load I'd done that day. It consisted of 11 long-sleeve polo-type shirts (XL & XXL) as well as 4-6 short-sleeve polo-type shirts (L-XL). Now I know what Jason was doing after the load had finished. He kept putting it back into spin. I thought at the time, what on God's green earth is he dong? My shirts are gonna be so spun-wrinkled even the dryer won't get them out. He just has to watch that 1010 rpnm spin speed (well, don't we all???) Incidentally, that would have been 2 loads in my Kenmore (done on getle of course).

Jason, also with the IWL12, there are almost infinite agitator patterns available because of the variables in place of the load size, fabric sensed, as well as degree of soil selected for the load. And probably by the time you get around to getting your laundry pair, F&P will be producing the top load dryer in Clyde Ohio and will most likely be the one that matches the IWL12 as Glenn stated it's already in OZ.

Generally about $200 to $250 more. I found a range of $180 to $220 for on-line prices. Storefronts may be a bit more.

Mechanical design ("the guts") are the same on both models. Differences are due only to programming and controller boards, and external appearance.

a question

so what range of Fisher and Paykel washers do you guys get in the US? Here in Aussie we have the smaller models (5kg-7.5kg), where New Zealand has the Intuitive Dryer and 5kg Intuitive Washer. I would love a 5kg Intuitive washer but for some reason only the 7.5kg intuitive is available here which is a bit big and expensive for us, as we each do our own seperate loads. Are the top loaidng dryers there popular? Here they don't seem to be. I love fisher and paykel machines and we probably will get a small 5kg one in the future, just having a lot of fun with the Hitachi portable at the mo :)
Well done on a fantastic video Jason, i always love a video by JaBri studios, good music and great viewing.
Regards
Matt
