I have inherited a JC Penney shop vac which my dad bought around 1975. It works fine, but I'm totally stumped on finding a replacement filter bag. Googling brings no results (it is a model 6011 10 gallon capacity, if that helps.)

Surely somebody made these for Penney's, but who?

Would the bag filters for Shop Vac or Craftsman vacuums fit?You may still find the bag filters-I am assuming the one that fits over the motor assembly in the vacs drum. The trend of course in most new vacuums is the pleated filter.-the "lunch bag" filters are getting harder to find-but DON'T use an actual lunch bag-they are sealed so there would be no airflow-result could be a blown motor.another place to check-Graingers-they carry a good selection of wet-dry vacuum parts.

Thanks for the suggestion!

It had a bag filter in it, that didn't quite fit the outlet and had come off. I foolishly threw it away without noting any numbers. I didn't see the need for a bag filter in a wet/dry vac and figured it would be easy to find the other type. The thing is so old that nobody seems to have a cross-reference -- I checked the Grainger catalog just now and JC Penney is not even listed! :(

It would be nice not to just have to buy them at random to see what fits!

I looked in Sears-all they have is pleated filters-you may have to try to find a pleated filter that would fit and some way to hold it on the fan intake cage.a foam filter is another alternative-Shop Vac uses them-usually for wet pickup-they do not filter well for dry pickup-fine dust will pass thru the foam filters. If you use the vacuum for coarse sawdust, chips,or metal shavings the foam filters may work.Lowes is a Shop Vac dealer.
