Anyone else having site issues?

I'm on Verizon DSL/Chrome browser

The new site seems to load almost instantly and I can move from section to section very quickly.  Aside from the one problem with not staying logged on that Robert fixed the new site is working extremely well for me.  Last night I tried the TRACERT command...not sure what I got, but so far everything is working better than the old site for me.

Hi Robert,

 

I'm having a couple of issues, am running Win7 and IE9 here.  I just wrote my first post for a while and even though I was logged in, it asked me to log back in again.  After I submitted my credentials in my message preview, most of the message was missing.  If I used the back button to get back to where I had originally typed the message, I could then preview and submit without any problems.  This time the submit has worked ok.

 

The other issue occurs when I use the back button.  If I hit back from within a thread to go to the thread listing, it backs me to the location in the list where I had opened the link, and then a couple of seconds later, the list jumps around and ends up in a slightly different position to where it was before the jump.

Robert, correct, AtomTime is not related to AW.

 

FasterFox extension includes a page-load timer.  The "old site" page you linked above loaded in 85.669s.  The "new" in 44.730s.  On cable/Comcast, not DSL.

Nathan, I just checked the log in logs:  You logged in on 2011-02-10 13:39:27 and then again 2011-02-17 13:46:43 (US Central Time), which means you had the unfortunate experience of having your 7 day log-in expire right in the middle of typing up a post.  Since you were able to recover your text I wouldn't worry about it.  Second the Wash/Rinse/Spin button data is now saved on the sever, so if you use your back-arrow button IE9 reloads the index page data, if there has been an updated thread and the index has changed, things are going to shift down slightly, its just how that browser works.

 

Glenn, cool that shows the new sever as loading pages twice as fast as the old server!  Good to know.

 

Ralph I really don't know what else to tell you, if I was having that kind of issue and others around me were not I would be on the phone to my ISP in a New York minute.

Excellent description of the typical customer support call to AT&T Internet services. I get so effin annoyed with them I don't even want to think about trying to fight this battle with them.

 

Maybe a class action lawsuit is needed. I could see this as an historic case of washer lovers versus the evil phone company. LOL.

What is interesting is Brent is on AT&T but his IP resolves to Bell South, not SBC Internet Services which explains why he's not seeing a slowdown.

Well, I'll give it a shot, and maybe can call an old workmate who has contacts in just about every part of the operation, and also have a buddy/former workmate/recently laid off AT&T statistic whose partner (recently retired from an IT position with AT&T) could have some insights or offer an inside track to resolution.

 

I'll see about making some calls next week.

Hm... I'm on Comcast -- the new website loads at least a bit faster, but the test with the old site loads all the pictures, while the test with the new site fails to load the pictures on replies 27, 28 and 29. Shift-reload doesn't seem to help. What is weird to me is that I'm pretty sure I saw that thread recently and all pictures loaded from the new server, not sure what's wrong now.

Paulo I'll look into that, but I bet they didn't transfer over to the new site in time as that was right during around the time I was getting things ready for the move.

 

Update:  Yup, good catch Paulo, I never even noticed that, thank you!  I missed transferring over some image files from Feb 3 and 4.  I'll get those done today.

Something strange

Yesterday as I was creating a post I copied text from a previous post to paste into my reply as quoted text. When I pasted it in, the quoted text was placed far down in the center of the draft box area and borders appeared around it.  I tried to remove the text but could not do anything with it.  I hit the preview message button and the copied text appeared in the background before the message window.  I canceled everything and decided to go to another part of the site.

 

I think an example of this incident can be found in thread 32934 "Why a Miele" around post 497513.  There you will see that the text appears in the blue background and not in the text window below it.

Yup I saw that too last week with a post that Terry made.  It's on my list of things to fix for next week, just been busy this weekend.  The Advanced Editing Bar is causing it, I know how to fix it, but wont get to it until Monday or Tuesday.

Just a note:

I recently disabled a little Firefox add-on called "Faster Fox". Initial impression is that removing this add-on may be resulting in more stable browser performance, such as when updating or loading new pages (no more long waits and time-outs). Simultaneously I also allowed Firefox to do the latest update (3.6.15). If the system is more stable it could be due to one or both of these changes. I'll keep you posted as to how it goes.

Now it's Sunday night and the missing pages (on other sites) and having to refresh in order to bump start a message preview here has returned...

Oh well.
