just wondering if there is anyone who is in the michigan area who lives near me in macomb twp, i would LOVE to have a regular friend that lives near me i can hangout with and talk about washers and dryers without thinking i am weird..... all that most of my friends care about is going to the bar and getting drunk... ugh!

It's funny you bring this up...

When ever I go out on my day off, I stop at the Local Watering Hole in Barnstable, and most people know of my collecting and ask "Hi Ed... What have you found lately ?"

I think it's a hoot that actually a few of them have come over to look at the machines I have. You always hear, "My Mother had one of those". Or "I remember that machine. And it still works ?"

Thats what I hate about loving stuff most people aren't into.

Same thing here: Underages who only care about being "Drunk" over the weekend. Monday morning @ school: "How drunk were you on Saturday night?" or "Did you go to that party Friday night?" sometimes "We were running from the cops and..."

etc, etc etc. I hate young people today (most, but not all), since they really highlight the direction humanity is headed. Uggghhh

There's a number of local Detroit area guys  and a little further afield including myself up in Sarnia/Pt Huron but to my knowledge there's never been any mini-meet or mini-wash in so if anyones interested in holding one I'd be interested in attending.  I've had fellow vacuum collectors over from both Mich and Ontario in the past,, great way to meet and it doesn't have to be fancy or anything.  Just supply some cheap eats like pizza etc and can split the cost etc.

I feel like the Maytag repairman

Yes, even in Chicago I find that there are slim pickens for folks who want to talk about appliance interests.
And even for my primary interest and lifelong career (electronics), most people who can discuss vintage television seem to be dead or retired.
Whose fault is it for this loneliness in Chicago? Probably mine. However it just seems to be my bad luck that EVERY time there is a meet for this gang I am out of town, at a wedding or otherwise predisposed. DRAT!

Fellow Michigander Dave Here!

I live in the Oakland county area & did hang out in the Macomb side o' town years ago! (My ex- lived in Clinton Twp.)

'Cept bein' caught up in middle class suburban family life (typical of us Oak Park-ians) gives me too little time & money these days for "fun stuff"!

(Wife, daughter & collecting Pat Boone records right now!)

Maybe more of a central point to meet?

Hello.
Ken here, near downtown Detroit (Boston-Edison neighborhood). Anyone else nearby? I've been watching the website from the sidelines more or less, for about ten years, and attended an early "convention". I would like to get together with others from the this vicinity, and perhaps make some new friends.
Also, I've been meaning to post about a machine I would like to sell. It's a working GM Frigidaire 1-18, middle of the line model. I'm writing from work and don't have the model number now. But it's a mechanically OK machine with just a bit of rust around the edges. It could be cosmetically fixed up very easily. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks.
