Anyone know about Kenmore 44252?

Hello, I am new around here and glad to see there's a forum for washers and dryers.

Is there a "search" function here that I can use to look up previously posted threads for information? If not, should I just ask the question directly and hope someone would post a respond?

Here's some background info about my search...I am in the market looking for a new washer/dryer pair to replace my old Kenmore 70 Series that I have used for 10 years. They are still working but the washer does not spin very well. I have to spin my load at least 2 times to dry the clothes off. I think the transmission will go out pretty soon. The gas dryer works fine.

Anyway, I found a Kenmore 44252 on sale for $650. This is a small Front Loader which has 3.5 cu ft. (see link) The dryer is 84252 and is pretty small at 5.7 cu ft. The salesperson indicated that these were made by Frigidaire. The reason I pick this pair is because I have a space constraint in my kitchen, where the hookup is. The old pair is occupying a custom-built tight space that is only 33 inches deep, 56 inches wide, and 46 inches high. With the utility hookup and clearing I need for the vent, the machines cannot be over 28 inches deep. So I am limited in what I could get. The Kenmore HE's and Whirlpool Duets are just too big at 32 inches deep, unfortunately for me. The sizes of 44252 washer are only 27"W x 36"H X 27"D; just the right size. The dryer has the same dimensions.

So, anybody has good or bad experience with this machine 44252? I think this model is being discontinued with the big price cut Sears is now offering. The salesperson didn't answer my question directly about issues or problems with this unit.

Any help or info is appreciated.

Hey! Steve, this is another Steve here in Northern Calif. I was looking up the Frigidaire website and found the same model under the Frigidaire brand.

I have read over 50 threads and have not come up with a review of these 2 yet. So, the search continues...

Switching to Frigidaire Affinity ATF700ES

Went to Sears and BestBuy this morning to check out the machines again. I noticed that Kenmore 44252 and the matching gas dryer (same as Frigidaire) have just 2 simple metal hinges with 2 screws each attaching the doors to the machines. This worries me. Not that my kids would swing on them. But what if one of us accidentally lean on it?! Looks like the door would break off easily.

Then I noticed Frigidaire has a new "Affinity" machine to replace this series. It's about $800 (not on sale) but the door hinge is a single metal piece that looks much stronger and durable. So I will do a little more research about this unit. Do let me know if someone knows about this. Thanks.

As Bobby Appnut said, I have this Electrolux-built machine, but the deluxe model and in the Frigidaire brand. I bought this for the exact reason you are looking at them...they are the only large capacity front load set that has a "normal" footprint, about the same as a top loading agitator washer. The Duet's, Maytag's, GE Adora's, Kenmore HE series, and LG's are all taller and deeper than the Frigidaires.
I had a 6-year old 3.1 Kenmore front loader built by Electrolux that I gave to my son that was a real work horse. Based on my experience, I would recommend this machine. I find they do an excellent job of cleaning, are energy efficient, quiet and dependable.
The matching dryer does a great job, but the drum is one of the smaller ones on the market. But with a larger drum comes a bigger cabinet. I find it works for us. Once in a while I will split a really big wash load of jeans to give them more room to dry wrinkle-free, but that is about it.
The door design that has you concerned poses no problems as far as I've experienced. When you think about it, almost all dryers have used this method to attach doors to cabinets for many years.
All in all, I think the Electrolux-built machines are a great buy. The new Affinity's are very cool...and there will be a new model with a water heater. But if you are counting pennies, last year's model is basically the same machine inside.

"Counting pennies" is a pretty accurate assessment. I do have some issues with paying $250 (with the discount) more to get just a few upgrades. But I have been busy this week so I haven't gone over the upgraded features really carefully; so I may still change my mind.

Anyway, I am looking at the other posting on the Affinity model too. It's really interesting to see that so many of you are so passionate about washers and dryers. I am learning a whole bunch from reading these postings!
