Anyone looking for an electric Tappan 400?

This showed up this morning on my local CL.  The $700 price is a little steep for only one working oven, but nice nonetheless.

So that's what that was!

I've been wondering what a range was that I saw in a house for sale a long time ago; it was a very quick tour and I didn't remember seeing a brand name.

What I did remember was that pull-open top that formed a nifty little barricade between you and and your pots. Visibility was further hampered by the fact that the pots were under the ovens.

I recall thinking: "That is Just. So. Wrong."

I apologize to any 400 fans, but I would be absolutely miserable with one of these.

If you were doing stove top cooking and baking, you got to stand in front of those glass doors which radiated heat into your face.

As I've posted in the past a cousin of mine in Detroit has one, it's really limping along, but he won't fix or get rid of it.  Because of the design it's impossible to replace it with a modern range and he has no desire to remodel the entire kitchen.  I kind of keep an eye out for something local to him, like the Tapan or a Flair that is cheap in hopes of getting him to swap it out, but so far no go.  If that is the only range you've done most of you cooking on I guess you get used to the drawbacks.  With the burners in a drawer setup it's great for a smaller kitchen which was common in the 50s to early 60s.
