Anyone remember Seal-A-Meal?

Helen has one of those machines that vacuums all the air out of a storage bag then seals it shut to put in the freezer. I remember back in the 70s, there were "Seal A Meal" machines but they didn't suck the air out, they just sealed the bag. I remember we had one in the 70s/80s and you pretty much had to roll all the air out of the bag. The new vacuum sealers do a good job and the food is fresh longer than if you just stuck it in a Ziploc bag.

I still have one, and until recently, I used it all the time. It's a great way to package and freeze leftovers for future lunches.

However, since the reusable freezer-to-microwave Hefty ZipLoc containers came along, I'm afraid my Seal-A-Meal hasn't seen the light of day very often.

I acutally have one made by the Deni corporation.

Use it for sealing for the freezer items.

In the 1990's I thought he had like a complete program for portion control.

I remember the infomercial, early 90's...used a deck of cards to plan out what foods to eat.

We had a yellow one. Not only could you seal it, but you could boil the items in the bag that is was sealed in. Remember, these were popular BEFORE everyone had a microwave, and boiling your vegetables, chicken-a-la-king, etc in a pot of water was very commonplace.

We also had--and I have it right now and I think it works--an electric saran wrap dispenser. It is green and white checked, battery operated, and worked quite well. I have no idea why my mom stopped using it. I will have to dig it out and check it out.

I never had one, since I can't stand leftovers!

I've Got One!

Name on the box says "Freshlock Vacuum Sealer". Please don't ask me who it is made by, as it sits up high on a shelf behind other things and am that knackered to be bothered getting it down.

Found it at local thrift, used it several times, mainly to "vacuum seal" fresh baked bread to keep one half loaf in the freezer so it wouldn't go stale.

Those rolls of plastic film/bags are not cheap, but if one is lucky they can be found on fleaBay for a good price.

"Chicken a la King", now there's a 1970's dish one hasn't heard of/had recently. Ranks up there with "Swedish Meatballs" and "Tuna Casserole".

Yes indeed. My mom used to buy these frozen, in thin little boxes. You took it out of the box and threw like 5 of them in a pot of boiling water for a few minutes and voila! dinner for everyone. I think they were made by Banquet.

Now I get the ones made by Swanson that are in a can. Yes that sounds gross, but it's not. Just pour it into a bowl and microwave for 90 seconds. I love it on toast for a quick lunch.

Going to a restaurant, eating, and then leaving without paying. Not that I would know anything about that. Ok, Ok, I have done it on occasion, but I, I, don't really want to talk about it.

Of course if you are referring to the yellow device we had that you put bags in to seal. That could be. The thing was you could hold the button indefinately and it would melt the bag in 2 pieces if held long enough. And yeah, it doesn't suck the air out like the new appliances, which I have tried and work good. I just found that I have tupperware and I don't freeze that much stuff where i needed to keep it. However, If I plant my garden as large as I want next year and get green peppers and strawsberries and the like to store, I would reconsider.

It was given to a aunt one Christmas then to grandmother , then to grandmother on the other side family the to another aunt, then to me in all these years it has NEVER been opened.
