Great minds think alike Tom!

Just given the machine one hell of a clean and doused all internal parts with Harpic Power 100% limescale loo cleaner and inside its fresh shiny and new.

Will soak the powder drawer in some later and see what happens if not then we can get a new one.

Cheers for that Tom your a massive help

How Liberating!

Congratulations you two, what a beaut! Finds like this and Gary's KMDL makes me optimistic that there's still plenty of other goodies out there for us all!

Can't wait to see the old gal once you've weaved your magic on her, call me tasteless but a purple Hottie in an orange Formica kitchen would almost be enough to sway me from the Great Red Roundel, hehehe!

How do Simon.

we have just had it running and made a number of vids and took some pics.
Should be uploading a few later this evening.

we are both really pleased with it and, barring the spin when it rumbles quite a bit, it is smooth and softly quiet.

Gary's 3243H is quite superb - been one hell of a week for us all really methinks.

The 1826 still needs some tidying up round the edges and there are one or two areas that requires touching up with some enamel paint, so a small paintbrush will be wielded next weekend.

Next weekend will also see the 1826 and Ecologic go into store for a while until the summer, when the 1826 with a bit of luck will be repaired. Fingers crossed.

cheers

As Paul mentioned we have run a wash through and I must say while the water levels are high, they are not as high as the Hoover levels.

Possibly suggests yours may have been faulty but my calculations based upon the water usage of 145 litres mentioned in Mikes posting ours is working fine.

The 145 Litres is split between the wash, cooldown and 5 rinses means an average fill of 24 litres vs Hoovers 120litres for wash and 3 rinses.

Of all the people I thought I could woo with a Hotpoint you were never one of them LOL.

Oh for some orange Formica, Marley flooring and maybe some Dulux Aubergine Matt.

Just on the lookout for the Mustard Hotpoint Light and Easy cleaner to match.

Just a teaser until later...

Starting the first wash

Neptune soap scrubber?

What are they?

In the machine is the "Arielette" powder dispenser which came with those P&G detergents in the early 90's.

The reason we had them was because the sump hoses in most vintage machines filled with water and soap from the machines dispenser drawer, the first gush of water washed most of the powder into the sump which wouldnt then be utilised in the wash.

The advent of Ultra/compact powders meant that ultimately most of the powder would of been lost before the water level was correct. So they invented the dispenser ball to be added to the drum which meant all the powder was used in the wash whhen the action started and none was lost down the sump.

These days with special sump systems we are back to using the drawers on modern machines.

the back of the machine which, rather irritatingly, has absolutely nowhere to tie the drain hose or cable flex. annoying when we came to put the machine away, but hey nothing too bad....

First cycle was run to clean it out a little. Note the fiddly door release mechanism - slide the switch to the right and pull handle forward....

The dial.

A bit grubby unfortuantely, but nothing we can do without splitting it down to individual components.

I have done this with the standard Hotpoint 18series dial and it is fiddly and difficult. Invariably the metal programme guide, underneath the plastic dial cover, is permanently pitted and unrestorable.
Think we will leave this one as it it....

I really like this picture!

The mirror finish panels on either side of the facia panel are immaculate, resulting in this unusual picture opportunity....

To the loaded wash...

before switch on with its first load under our custodianship - quite possibly the only load it does, before bearings change in the summer.....
