G and E appliances
When iI worked for Bernie and Harry's Appliance in Baltimore (bought out by George's in 1980), I would have customers who would say "G and E" when I asked them what brand their current washer or other appliance was.One day,a lady named Natily, called and asked if we carried "G and E" appliances. I asumed she was meaning "GE" and said yes.
She and her husband came in and as I aproached and greated them,I went to show them the old Filter Flows.Natily saw the FRIGIDAIRE 1-18's as we went to view the GE's and she said"That's what I want! pointing to the poppy red Frigidaire Jet Action 1-18 Gold Crown model.I asked her "Didn't you say you had a GE washer?" She said"No,I said G and E .You know,Baltimore's Gas and Electric company! We bought our old washer there. It goes up and down like this one.My mom wants one too so I am here to buy them both with matching gas dryers." I laughed so hard and they became instant permanant buyers. I sold them the rest of the poppy red appliances as well as her mother who got a full fRIGIDAIRE Custom Imperial kitchen in harvest gold.Nat also got her husband a Quazar Color T.V.for his Christmas present and he bought her a Tappan Microwave with the heating element. That sucker was huge! They both worked for McCormick Spice and gave me a nice 4 tear spice rack with 32 different spices for Christmas 1982. I still have it.
