First of all my Zanussi FJS1225W (2001), nearly 10 years old, the jetsystem pump is starting to make a loud buzzing sound, i don't know if theres a blockage or that the fact that its old, and part needs replacing.

It starts off really quiet, and then in the middle of the wash starts buzzing really loudly.

Also every so often I get E90 on the display, this has something to do with the PCB and the contact wires. this can easily be fixed by having a look at the contact wires

My Dishwasher - Tricity Bendix DH200W (2005)

i was loading the dishwasher, and discovered the button for the rinse aid dispenser has broke off, so now it doesn't shut properly, not that i use rinse aid, as i use the all in one finish tablets.

Can i get a replacement button for the rinseaid dispenser? or do i have to replace the whole dispenser mechanism?

Thanks

Kyle

Hi Kyle,

Sounds like the Jetsystem pump is wearing out.

With regard to the dishwasher, the part is only available as a complete dispenser I'm afraid. Part number 4071358131, price £26.52 if buying direct from Electrolux.

Hope that helps,

Tom.

Jetsystem Pump

I might be wrong but i believe that if there's a problem with the Jetsystem pump or it's blocked, it can fry the PCB if it continues to be used.

Would try to use programs that don't use Jetsystem (if possible) until it's repaired. I'd guess a new PCB and pump would effectively make the machine a write off so you don't really want the PCB to go aswell.

Jetsystem pump

I am considering giving it a clean out, by running a hot cottons 90 wash with a bottle of white distilled vinegar, or some washing machine cleaner. it might be that the filter is blocked and needs cleaning out.

If i do replace the washer I may get a new 1200rpm whirlpool without the time remaining indicator, or an old bosch maxx, precision or WFF2000, or i may save up and buy a miele :D

as for the dishwasher, it doesn't really matter, as i use an all in one tablet which substitutes the use of rinseaid

it works so thats all that matters.

Hey Kyle,

Sorry to hear about your problem with the jetsy - they're crackin' machines so fingers crossed it's easily repairable. I've heard good things about the new Whirly ranges, but also heard they take absolutely ages to complete a wash cycle, which is one of my biggest pet hates!

You're probably right about the dishwasher - if it ain't broke, don't fix it, I guess.

Hope you get sorted,
Chris

Hi Kyle.

Sorry to hear about your washer. Don,t get a new Bosch Maxx, they are crap. I got Bosch Maxx5 and shows err3 now & again and is only about 6 months old.

Regards

I was considering the old bosch maxxes/excel from early 2000s, or a reconditioned machine, if i found a WFF2000, that would be great.

I didn't know that new bosches had teathing problems, if i did get a new machine, it would have to have no time remaining indicator, as LEDs can get faulty over a few years.

if i was to buy new i would buy a whirlpool or a beko i guess, or save up and get a miele or a maytag (asko) machine.

Beko machines...

I actually am very fond of Beko washers. Good programming and nice deep rinses :). My best friend has the 1200 model and it's brilliant.

Update: Buzzing sound

The buzzing sound is getting louder, it is coming from the filter trap door, so i don't know if there is something stuck in it or what. I may be tempted to look round for a new washer soon.

new washer choices

I am tempted to get this machine the Whirlpool AWO/D4505, 1200rpm spin, looks pretty decent, and is a plain and simple basic machine to use with a 30 min quick wash programme, programme progress indicators, and a cold wash button =]

what does everyone think? x

I think you should try opening the filter and seeing if anything is stuck in it. Does your washer still work? I think you'd be stupid to get rid of a perfectly functioning washing machine just because it's making a funny noise. Get it checked out by someone if needs be and save yourself a lot of money!

Plus, from what I know, those Whirly's are very hit and miss. The 30 minute cycle isn't really much good for anything more than a few items and the full cycles take anything up to 3 hours to complete. The attached would be a much better option

Replace?

There's not alot i could pick to replace a washer like the Jetsystem XC. For a modern design they seem pretty good all-rounders and 10 years is excellent considering they wernt that expensive when new.

I think if i were you i'd go down the route of getting an engineer out to look at the machine. The noise sounds likely to be coming from the pump, which won't cost the Earth to replace (providing you refrain from going down the Service Force route) and whilst you get the odd E90 error, it's done it for long enough to suggest it's not in a hurry to get worse. The bearings can still be replaced (when needed) on the XCs without having to change the whole drum, so i'd hang onto it.

I do like the look of the Whirlpool 6th Sense machines, but i don't reckon you'll be too fond of the cycle times compared to what Zanussi manage. And the bearings are sealed in the tub on that Whirlpool so if they go (which they do very quick if you get a bad one) you'll be scrapping it, possibly after just 2 years.

Id seriously get the XC at least looked at to see how much a repair would be.

Paul, that is a new release machine....

Which recommends the following out of the Beko range they have tested

GBP299 - WM7335 with the only negative being 'a little noisy on the spin cycle' with a score of 70%

GBP250 - WME7247 with the only negative being 'high water consumption on the easy care/fiddly control panel' with a score of 71%

just missed out
GBP280 - WME8227W only negative being 'slower top spin than some (1200) with a score of 69%

Check them out....if you are in need of capacity, I'd be headed to teh 8kg machine WME8227W and pocketing GBP100....

Hmmm

It could be alright. At least theyve not got carried away with a massive spin speed, but 9kg is big for a manufacturer that has tended to focus on low price machines so far.

Id probably wait to see how they last long-term before getting one myself. Go for a 6 or 7kg instead.

Which? sometimes come out with dubious results, like once i read something along the lines of saying the Zanussi 1200 essential has good rinsing and the 1400 has poor rinsing. Spin speed aside, i can't see how either machine differs that greatly at rinsing when it has the same programming, so i wasn't convinced. There's other things i've read by them that didn't seem quite right aswell, so i cancelled my membership.

My feelings are....

....that all consumer magazines have their good and bad points...

...I prefer to use them as a guide rather than the 'gospel'...

I agree....

....Whilst some of Which? findings are dubious, things like their reliability data seem on the whole to be very accurate.

Therefore using them a guide is indeed a good idea.

Bosch Maxx 5

Hi Guys.

I mentioned a problem with my 6 month old Bosch Maxx 5. It keeps on showing Err3. Phoned comet today, they phoned a Bosch engineer and they said its a problem with the heater.

They coming out on Thursday to repair the machine.

So will keep you informed of the progress. Still not happy that a Bosch machine to go wrong to early in its life. I am always washing out the soap dispenser, and keeping the machine looking good.

If it's the model I think it is with the square handle sticking out the side (reminiscent of 80s Hotpoints), then thats because it isn't a Bosch.

They used to be made by Balay of Spain, but I have reason to believe they are now made in Poland. They are not an example of the quality of higher end Bosch machines.

The Classixx models and up as far as I know are still made by Bosch themselves, and should prove less troublesome.
