My newest addition... Phaser 7760DN... Acquired it from a customer that Upgraded. All of the maintanence kits were recently replaced on it, so I'll have a few years of usage before I have to haul it away.

It developed a small smudge that happens every 30 pages or so, but for what I'd use it for, I can deal.. Besides, I have a WorkCentre 7556 coming that I have been waiting for over a year to get.. Finally found one at the right price..

I have to move my KDS-58 out to my storage unit that way I can place this guy where the DW was at... Too much stuff :/

Oh, I sell Xerox machines and Solutions btw! :-)

Got a couple of Phaser printers, 750 I think. Nice printers but too expensive to maintain. Both need to be hauled to the trash now, been out of service for a few years.

For those that don't know, the Phasers I've used use a wax block that is melted to print with. Truly beautiful look, almost raised lettering. Color was very good too but very, very costly. We got one as a deal with Xerox but we had to print a certain number of pages a month. Picked up a second one as a parts machine, but closed our business before we needed it.

Xerox bought out Tektronix and they were the solid Ink company. The current line of Solid Ink devices are ColorQube devices. I think most of the phasers moved back to toner based. This one is CMYK Toner, but its not an LED engine. (specs http://www.office.xerox.com/latest/776BR-01.PDF .)

I never did like the solid ink design because the ink worked like an InkJet. The hot ink was was sprayed on to the paper. You never got a true blend like you do with toner or 4 process. If the machine was ever turned off, you had several ounces of ink that gets wasted so the machine can clean the heads and make sure no ink is clogged.

I will say this though. If you are ever in a need for a fast high output black and white machine, ColorQube solid ink is the way to go. Black has the cheapest click charges per output... You just have to deal with the lower quality color.

My WorkCentre 7556 I have coming is fully loaded and is an LED engine. It has awesome color (specs http://www.office.xerox.com/latest/W7BBR-01U.PDF). I'll have the Hi-Cap feeder on it, tandem trays, professional finisher, fiery server, hot folders and seequence. I'm pretty excited because I have work lined up for it already.

Stupid thing cost more than my car...

just checked we had the Phaser 850 series...

I've got 2 big garbage bags of black ink blocks in the garage to go along with the printers.  We "cheated" a bit and simply carved the black ink blocks to fit in the color slots since as you mentioned if you turned off the printer it would waste a massive amount of ink.  Somehow I dont think these "appliances" were energy star rated.....
