Aqualits Glass just Smashed

hi all, our Aqualtis machine which i bought on the 20 December is broken, today the door glass just smashed while it was on, there was nothing in the machine it was on a maintenance cycle ( told my mam to do one every once and a while) and she shouted up to me at the end of the cycle saying the glass was smashed, so i ran down and low and behold the entire bottom part of the door glass was shattered, cant figure out how it happened tho. idea's anyone? im fuming over it. only 6 months old.

They have a design fault i believe.
Alot of hotpoint machines have had this happen recently.

Moral of the story, avoid hotpoint and indesit machines they are seriously unreliable.

Warranty?

I do not want to scare you, but as far as I know, most companies including Indesit, take glass out of the waranty. You might want to check that.
So, maintanance was done at 95°? At which stage did your mother recognize it? May be that the low water wash heated the glas and as the cooldown started, the glas got hit by pure cold water and thus shattered?

Numerous causes of spontaneous glass breakage.

Very small contaminants that get into the glass during manufacture can cause the glass to shatter at a later date.
And also, non-uniform pressure on the glass due to design error, mis-installation or impact may cause shatter.

Ensure your write to Watchdog, as this shouldn't have happened, and your not the first. You should also email Hotpoint. They should replace the door as its still under its 1 year guarantee.

It's not just Hotpoints though - many more reports of Candy's/Beko's/Bosch/Siemens/LG/even Miele etc.}
In fact its probably not even Indesits fault as the door glass was probably made by a separate manufacturer under license.

I'd get them to replace the drum/tub too as there may be pieces of small glass caught between the inner and outer tub, potentially causing more damage to the machine and to clothes.

Yeah good luck with that.   If they do repair it under warranty they will only replace what is damaged or defective, they aren't going to replace something else on the machine "just because you want them to".

 

Besides, any glass in the wash drum can be vacuumed out.  If any pieces of glass were small enough to go through the holes to the outer drum, they will end up in the lint/button trap OR possibly be flushed down the drain.

George, if you're going to state facts like "Alot of hotpoint machines have had this happen recently." please have the courtesy to back that up with a link. I've not heard of this being a common occurrence with any brand, and would generally assume it to be a freak accident.

Manufacturing issues can happen with any product, and as mentioned above one small blemish could be enough to cause the crack. It could be the temperature that has done it, but could be various reasons.

Before going to the lengths of contacting Watchdog or the like, contact Hotpoint/Indesit and ensure any communication is documented. As long as the machine has been used as per the instructions, you should be able to get them to replace the door glass. If you have issues with them and their communications, then consider contacting Watchdog or the like.

The machine was on a 60 degree wash, very unlikly that the temperature caused it, the glass exploded inwards to the drum and there are shards of glass all around the drum and in the door seal also one of the paddles was damaged too, they've been in touch and offered to fix it but honestly id rather have an Non Hotpoint replacment machine, so im in discussions with the retailer to have it replaced. This is my third Hotpoint machine in 4 years each have had mulitple problems so im loosing faith in the brand.

Hotpoints were quite good up until certain WF's and then started declining in quality badly.
So if you like hotpoint and want a faithful machine just get something WF or previous because they are reliable.

The retailer has agreed to swap it for a different machine, so tomorrow this will be arriving

They wouldn't just give you a free swap to the TOL (UK) Bosch Logixx Washing Machine!!
Its a great choice though, more reliable (German Built) than probably any thing else on the market (except Miele) - Hope you've registered to receive the 10year motor warranty?
Hope its just as good as our works (lower end) Bosch!
Oh yeah, the "Others.." programme link simply has a towels programme on it, and a few partial settings, its no Miele where its full of further programmes!!

You've been very unlucky this past 4 years having over 3 different machines.
Mine seems fine though, and nearly 1 year old now. No explosions, No door smashing, No Control Panel failing, No Bearing Failure etc. (That I was told would happen in the first year when I first purchased it) - beginning to think you've been extremely unlucky.
I hope I don't have to go through 3 machines in the space of 4 years - I'm not put off in any way buying a new Hotpoint, this ones been fantastic.

I'm sure you're Bosch'll be great, and look forward to seeing a few pics.

Hotpoint unreliable? Maybe so... but...

This spontaneous glass smashing saga has been affecting quite a few front loading washers: the biggest offender is Beko... and up to a while ago, it was followed closely by Miele. i was able to get the TOL Bosch because its on special offer, down from 900 to 580, some mad promotion they were doing so i choose that one after reading about it. it will be delivered by 1 pm tomorrow cant wait to see it, im still very saddened at the way it ended with the Hotpoint, i wont have another hotpoint for a very long time after my experiance.

The new bosch arrived this morning, love it, the difference can be seen immediatly in terms of quality, and its soooo quiet compared to the 'super silent hotpoint', it reminds me of a square door bendix when spining at 1400rpm thats how quiet it is. Just a gentle hum

Beko The Funeral Companies Freind

You have to hand it to Beko for probably harming more owners than any other make, fridges that catch fire, gas cookers that leak and of course this now, I was attacked by a Beko washing machine when I worked on site, the lid was off so I stood on the soap draw assembly to get a leg up and it collapsed so I fell backwards onto a load of small electrical items.........we were used to stepping on things to get a leg up, but this one wasn't up to the job

I'm currently flat sharing. We have a Beko WMB5100W and it's been completely reliable. It's 5 years old and goes on and on despite being used 4 times a week by different people.

The only fault I feel it has is the Timed-fill on rinse cycle. Feels like it needs to add more water on the rinses when washing a full absorbent load. But otherwise it's a great machine for the price.
