Are New Appliances Always Doomed? Why A Grass Roots Movement Could Change Things

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Chet, it's futile to even continue with that insistent member.
After NINE frikkin' years he thinks I still can just pop off some website link?
I don't even know if it's been changed since then, as many other sites have done, like this one.
It was on the shop's main computer, not mine, nor did I gold-plate it and stick it on the fireplace mantle.
This insistant web junkie just wants to trigger people, bully them, so that's why I blocked him, among others who have become annoying.
I don't need the aggevation.
Screw 'em!
Let him argue over this......

Matt, good advice. Let me be the one to apologize for William's behavior. And for not giving your posts as many likes as I should have over the past month. (In general I am shy of liking posts regardless of quality or who made them simply because I don't like anything being a popularity contest. I am still in recovery over my social media addiction lol)

Trust me, I've had my fair share of detractors. Sometimes it is best to just step away and ignore what follows. They are looking for engagement and continuing any back and forth is a sign of consent to them.

Remember Matt, you will always have people who appreciate you and value your experience. I am one of them.

As I said, the site might be discord, it might be a grey wall, or it might not exist anymore.

Nothing Matt is saying is highly unlikely or violates the laws of physics. It is possible, and I doubt Matt would lie.
A support site, you can't reach while in the field. Kinda pointless.
You think it's likely that he can't even remember the name?

You never did tell me what you do for a living, or how you have such knowledge. I found your example without a link...

And don't apologize for my behavior. I'm not the one making wild claims of self destructing chips, with no evidence at all.

Chet, some people in life are utterly annoying, you know that I'm sure.
They keep drilling, unconvinced of other's statements, and just plain unreasonable.
These same ones I've noticed have spouted their rudeness to others on here, so all it takes a simple mouse click to ignore them.

You didn't block me, clearly you can see my posts. You even replied to them. Stop with the stories.

Matt, they know what point you are trying to make. They know what you are communicating. They can read in between the lines. That is obvious. But pretend they don't and keep pilling on doubt, guilt, and the insinuation of ulterior motives in hopes of getting a rise out of you.

Don't let them, stay calm and stay happy.

You click on a saved link on the computer screen or type in a URL.

It takes you to a log in box. You put your credentials in, name, pass word, ect and it takes you to the site.

That was 9 years ago. People forget. Or maybe has doesn't want to give away to much information.

In so far Matt has made no grandiose claims.

Indeed, the truth is that no, I don't remember the link to that website.
I didn't pay much attention to it back then, and why should I?
I don't keep links in my brain for things I won't use.
Tell that creep to get a life.

Nope, just claims of self destructing chips...
I notice you can't answer questions about your claims either.

Thanks for explaining how the internet works to someone that worked in the field for over 25 years. I never knew you could just type an address in the bar...or click on link. This will save me a lot of time in the future.

Few can remember every intimate thing in their life. How could 9 years ago you know that someone on line would doubt your participation in a private chat-forum? Most can't even remember their own phone number. Its part of being human.

Trying to convince or reason with someone who continually enjoys badgering others is a waste of time.
Speaking of time, it's bed time, goodnight.

Not being condescending to anyone here, this forum has some fikle members. Has for decades. Many know their trades and their experiences are valuable.
Many have met in person over the years at wash ins and ground reunions. Some have no face to their name and no one has ever met them. Others knew other members in young adulthood before this site was around.
One thing we all share in common is that life is short. I will talk, I won't fight.

Matt I’ll throw you a bone.
I don’t care about the website thing.
But the self destruct chips and circuits are super interesting.
Can you share what product had them and what the layouts were like? As fantastical as something like that is, I bet it’s quite memorable who had them and what they looked like.

For those who want sources behind my ambitious claims- here is a real world example where 4 single pole single throw and 4 single pole double throw timer contacts control an entire washing machine without any electronics. No error codes to pop up, no soldier tracks, small relays or undersized Molex connectors that can fail.

Tech sheet is attacked.

Only thing I would add is a dual action agitator. Machines like this need to be put back in production. You not only get your money's worth with an economized yet durable design built on a mass scale giving 15+ years of longevity but clothes are also washed and rinsed to perfection in under 30 minutes. There is still demand and preference for this concept.

We just need to get more people to realize that in the long term people save money with a machine such as this.

Basic AF.
Too small.
Uses too much water.
Doesn’t meet my needs anymore.
This is a bachelor apartment washer.

Way less that can go wrong. Simplicity is one of the major keys to longevity, reliability and dependability as well as serviceability and universal parts availability.

Too small.

A direct drive with a DA can wash more clothes than a top load Speed Queen. It is better to run smaller 16 pound loads than larger loads. Colors, linting, wash time, temperatures, ect all force smaller loads around

Uses too much water.

Nothing a spray rinse system and DA agitator can't solve.

???????

Thats the name you attach to no frills simplicity?

Yes I know this is a 24 inch washer, however a 27 inch BOL/MOL Whirlpool washer isn't much different.

The most I could fit in my old 24 inch Whirlpool was 2 jeans, or one plus a couple shirts. Two bath towels at a time. The new manager wanted me to quit using the water so I told him I got it because the laundry which had two washers were rarely available and one smelled like gasoline. I was moving in a couple of months anyway. I sold the year old set for 75% of the new price.

They make 27 inch direct drives with a dual action agitator which can hold a lot more.

I only linked the 24 inch model because I had the tech sheet on hand as an example of how simple a control system could get for a 4 cycle washer.

The exact same motor, wire harness and timer could be transplanted to a 27 inch model and it would still work satisfactorily.

All direct-drives were 24" width until circa 1986 at introduction of the 27" revision when classic belt-drives were discontinued. Granny had a 1984 LA7400XM. It easily handled larger loads than what you describe. I used it from 1985 to 1991 when I lived in an apartment that had no laundry facilities. Her laundry and mine mixed together for full loads.

My Kenmore 24" portable DD has the dual-action agitator, and I've always been able to load it up with a decent amount of articles without any problems.
I like the fact that it was made with a "warm rinse" option too.
However, it sits and waits, tucked away in the laundry room, waiting, waiting, in case the Maytag ever breaks down..... which I believe won't be anytime soon.

Still using my 1979 Maytag 806 with its 12 pound capacity, plenty large for me. Anything larger would simply be redundant since I pretty much separate everything, wouldn’t even use the entire capacity of the machine.
