I have never bothered trying this detergent before, but Sainsbugs have Ariel tabs on offer right now so I combined trying `Actilift' with `Febreze'.

For those folk who liked Ariel Alpine, I think you would also like this product. On washed linen, the scent is almost identical. I have some Ariel Alpine from France and have compared the two.

What really surprised me, though, was that it actually leaves less of a scent in terms of intensity than regular Ariel tabs. I think that these are the biological P/G tabs with the least amount of scent.

I turned the box upside down and glanced at the ingredients which confirmed that there are only two synthetic perfume ingredients as opposed to three in regular Ariel, though I don't claim to be a scientist.

Reason for posting is....don't be afraid to try `with Febreze' because you think it'll be too stinky. Not so. I can't support the matching FS, as although the scent does indeed match, it is far too strong and `granny' like for my taste.

Personally, these days I like just enough of a drop of Surcare `scent free' FS to kill any suds and lessen static. No FS smell is pleasing to me any more, I just want a light fresh smell of detergent.

Regards

Nick

Nick

I loved Ariel Alpine, I remember when i was a child i stayed over at a friends house and his mum washed my clothes in her Bosch and she had a Big box of Ariel Alpine washing powder on the side.

Smelt Absolutely Amazing..i remember it disappearing though off the shelves in 2001

I was wondering if the scents were identical as they don't have febreze ariel in france, and the tablets are the same colour

Thanks Nick

I had a look in my local Tesco yesterday: only the liquitabs are of the 'Actilift' variety - everything else is still the old stock.

If Tesco would lower their prices a bit, they might get a better turnover of products. I have a distinct feeling that my store only does a brisk trade when things are half-price or 'buy one, get one free' style of offers.

See, They Do Listen!!!

Hi Nick, same with you on this one!!, its a great scent and a lot nearer the older formulas we like, the rinsing also seems to be a lot better...how are the Bosch`s doing??

I think its the same with most supermarkets, I called in Asda yesterday and people where filling there trolleys with the Specials of Surf & Bold!!! like you say why pay premium when its on offer...same with the gel!!!

Actilift

What a fab product!!

No suds in the wash and a crystal clear first rinse.

Perhaps we may get machine manufacturers dropping water levels and rinses.
I doubt even any rinsing is required so 1 low level rinse for fab cond after the main wash would be just great for me.
With detergents like this able to achieve such results I cant see why we cant have some serous water saving machines.

This product really works, excellent cleaning and a great fresh fragrance.

Im sold on it!

Was going to snap some shots while getting the bedding done, went outside to sort out some cleaners to bring to the meet this weekend and didnt realise just how long I was in the shed for. Made a mad dash for the kitchen when I heard the water draining but got there too late, machine was on its 3rd rinse.

only gripe is it didnt perfectly remove some marks from this cloth but they were from using metal polish, the oxidisation black marks stil there even after I had washed the majority of the stains out in the sink before it went into the machine.

Have yet to find a detergent that removes this anyway especially from MicroFibres.

..."Wont be tumble drying this lot. will let the scent

Hang on a mo...where's this tumble dryer sprung from, Rob? Illicit import or have those tight b*stard landlords had a change of heart?

What's the deal with the 25 wash box of actilift anyway? Another reduction in size to keep the price seeming the same whilst raising it?

Metal oxides are possibly some of the worst stains - when I've wiped dry some of our aluminium cookware the stains are never removed properly. I resign myself to the fact that you can't have teatowels without some evidence of use!

One rinse machines? Sir, I fear you speak of the future! Good news for water resources maybe, but no fun to watch especially at low levels. No good for most of the detergent on the market either. Then again, US top loaders have had just one proper rinse for years so who knows?

As to Ariel with febreeze effect...perhaps that's what I'll give a whirl next time! My housemate bought the tablets a couple of years ago and they seemed quite nice - preferable to the odd fragrance of the standard version. But the prospect of yet more soap without suds...yawn, yawn, yawn!

On that note, I will skidaddle and pop the whites on myself...looking like a heavy washday...YAY!

I'm using this too and it is fantastic, didn't think you could improve anymore on the old formula of Ariel but it really is a great product. I don't think my whites have ever been that white, and I only used about 80-100ml and a 40 degrees wash. Rinsing is absolutely perfect, the old Ariel would require an extra rinse with heavier loads such as 6 kg of towels, but even the first rinse with towels is absolutely clear. No noticeable skin irritation either on my niece's skin, who has quite bad eczema. Definitely a lot easier rinsing than the Fairy we also have, makes you think really...

In terms of the box size - despite the dosing reducing to 25 doses, the price has also dropped back down to 5.99 if I remember correctly versus what was almost 7 quid for a 28 wash box, in my head I think that works out cheaper per recommended load than it was before?

I've always had suspicions the Febreze variant was Alpine in drag - perhaps we are indeed right! Will have to add some to the trolley next time we do the shopping :-)

Yeah, the price has dropped by about £1. Liquitabs have also reverted to 20 per pack along with a reduced price too.

I got a box from Morrisons, currently £4 for the 25 wash ones, and seem to get away with using hardly any - although they've got rid of the "light soil/soft water" dosage on the side of the box and I can't remember what it used to be!

Talking about old formula smells...

I got bought a 120 wash box of Ariel Professional for my birthday (best present I ever received - less fattening than a box of chocolates anyday lol), and that still has the "freshly cut grass" smell to it Ariel used to have - I think I've mentioned it before but it is a gorgeous smell, and also is the older formulation with the blue and green specks rather than the blue "sugar strands" as I call them.

I know our B&M homestore often has Ariel professional, as does Netto from time to time, so it's one to keep an eye out for - great places if you can't access a cash & carry.

Spoodles - I've noticed P&G products haven't listed that either, but if I remember rightly on Persil, which still tells you, its in the region of about 65-75ml. At the end of the day, we have quite hard water where we are in Lincoln - (although not as bad as London I have to say, I used to have to bleach the toilet every day) - and I get away with 100ml, so I imagine for a soft water area you could probably halve that.

Jon

Thanks Jon!

I think that's about the amount I use.

I can usually get around one third more out of a box or bottle than the standard number of washes labelled on the front, using the smallest dose. I remember Ariel liquids used to say something odd like "20 doses = up to 30 washes" on the front and I'd get 30 using the old "light/soft" measure. I can see why they'd rather not mention that now!

P&G Professional Ariel from Germany -

Jon - Is this the same formulation that they offer in the UK? I have wanted to try it for ages, and I can purchase a 10KG box of the German variant, but wanted to see if it was the same before I dropped the cash on it!
