Hi guys,

So I bought some Ariel powdered laundry detergent at Meijer over the weekend, and the 213 oz. comes in a huge bag without a scoop. I can use a measuring cup with it, but how much of this should I use with my conventional top load washer? The capacity of my machine is 3.2 cubic feet, and I wash full loads on the highest water level most often. I don't usually do small loads. I've read that the Mexican measurements are a full cup, but that seems really excessive to me. Maybe a half cup for a full load? With powdered detergent that contains the scoop, I typically use half the scoop, maybe a touch more. The water hardness level here in Indianapolis is 274 PPM.

Also, what type of container would be best to store this? I'm having trouble finding a resealable container that's big enough. I bought this because lots of people seem to like it and it's relatively cheap, but I'd like to get the most out of it if I can.

Thanks,

Ryne

I’ve used Ariel powdered detergent in my machines, works well but have to be careful with the dosage of detergent since you can easily over due it and cause a suds lock. I’ve already suds locked my Whirlpool a few times with Tide, Gain, and Ariel detergent. I usually use a Tide scoop to measure the amount of detergent I need and so far seems to work.

Ryne,

I just keep my Ariel detergent in a large Rubbermaid storage container. It is only large enough to hold about 1/3 of the bag, I secure the top of the bag with a rubber band for storage until I next need to refill the container.

I keep a 1/4 cup measuring cup in the storage container. My washer is 3.5 cu ft capacity. Our water is very hard. I use 1/4 cup for a very small load (1/4 full tub), small loads ( half full tub)1/2 cup, 3/4 cup for med load (3/4 full tub) and for a large load (full to top of the tub) 1 cup. I’ve never had an over sudsing condition of a suds lock following these guidelines. My experience with Ariel Powdered detergent is that it is relatively low sudsing.

HTH,
Eddie
