I never tried it before but today I ran out of Gain and ran over to the convenience store to get some. All they had was Ariel in a small, plastic bag for 99C so,I grabbed it and went.I measured 1/4 C into my L.G.washer's dispenser and watched carefully to make sure it didn't oversuds. Not only did it maintane a great low suds level but got my wash real clean and made it smell great!I think I'll get a large box of it next time I go to my local "Fiesta"food store.Anyone else here tried it yet?

Don't get the Ariel in a box -- it is a different formula and you will be extremely disappointed. The bagged stuff comes from Mexico and is loaded with enzymes and oxygen bleach. It is great stuff if you can tolerate the scent.

Peter H770 is right.

The Mexican made stuff is much more effective. I had 2 roomates from the UK who bought it mistakenly one day, thinking it was the same as The European Ariel formula. They surprised at how much better this is and still swear by it. My housekeeper never even used bleach when washing the whites, and they always came out spotless. Good news for me, as the bleach dispenser in my LG lets everything run right through. Laundromat, are talking about an LG front loader? That's what I use. Glad to know this detergent won't make a mess with too much suds, as I used to do with the Westy front loaders of my childhood.

Pink bits

I bought a box of Ariel Colour today and used it when I got home. Is it my imagination or has the fragrance changed and are there now little pink bits in it that weren't there before?

Hoovermatic

Yes they have changed *one of* the Ariel Colour formulas and added pink powder bits to it. The new look boxes have it. It looks the same as Bold powder now.

I say *one of* because if you look on the ingredients list there's an "A" or "B" version of the ingredients, the batch code on the side of the pack has an A or B after it to tell you which one is in the box.

So far I've had 2 boxes of the new look with a "B" and they had pink bits, but just had a new look "A" ingredients box and it just has blue bits in, like the old formula! And yes the smell has changed too.

Persil Colour have also added new red bits along with 2 different shades of blue bits to their formula as well. The scent of Persil has also changed, it's nowhere near as nice as it was before. The new Persil is also in new look packaging with "Just washed feeling" logo on the front of the box - Just washed feeling, after you've just washed something - WOW!!!

These "bits" must be so amazing that they are making them in all different colours now! ;-)

I've Told Ya

Only thing Mexican Ariel has going for it is that it contains heaps of STPP. Add the same to any good TOL Amercian detergent, or any other detergent for that matter, and the results are probably going to be equal.

In study after study it has been shown white laundry washed with phosphates will appear "whiter" and "brighter" than those laundered without.

Ariel,Tide and FOCA~

"When washing whites, Ariel put Tide with Bleach to shame".

I disagree with this statement. Tide with Bleach powder has to be on of the BEST american made detergents currently on the market.

I hate Mexican Ariel..I gave a bag to AndrewinOrlando a few months back because I couldn't stand the smell. He loves it in his Calypso.

You want to try a great Mexican detergent? Try FOCA...It is loaded with phosphates and smells awesome! Does an amazing job on white laundry.

Been using Ariel for a couple of years now. Works very well, don't mind the scent, and in the right quantity, is very low sudsing. Second to none in stain removal and whitening whites, but I still use a little bleach. Trick is to get the quantity right. In the Calypso, I measure it with a tablespoon. You don't need much. The one thing Ariel has going for it is its price. A small bag costs about $1.00. Find ANY American detergent of this quality that cleans as well as Ariel does, that sells for $1.00. Doesn't exist. A small bag lasts me a couple of months or so, depending on the laundry volume.

"depending on the laundry volume".

Now that you don't do Rosie's laundry anymore, 1 bag should last you a year! lol!

All of this talk about Ariel . . .

Made me break out my stash and wash a load of white bath towels in it tonight in my LG! I used 1/3 of a cup in th emain wash, and about 1/6 of a cup in the pre-wash. I added about 3/4 TBSP of Amway/Quixtar's oxygen bleach to the main wash as well. I'm sure everything will come out sparkling white!

I disagree with this statement

Shane,

Well I think you should do two loads of whites and really compare the brightness using both products and you will notice one will POP out you more than the other.

I'm a Tide with Bleach user and I use that product more than any other powder detergent on the market, but Ariel in the plastic bag will beat Tide with Bleach with it own whipping stick!
Just because the scent is a little high, the cleaning performance should not be knocked. It just does a better job whitening whites.
Foca has the same whitening performance as Ariel and I recommend both detergent for white loads only.

I do laundry daily and I've been doing it for 36 of my 44 years, so I think I'm quite qualify to notice the difference.

Again, matter is easily settled. Get yourself a bag of STPP and add the percent equal to what is in the Mexican Ariel,to the Tide with Bleach.

It is not really fair to compare non-phosphate detergents to those that have the substance. Simply put (again), NOTHING will give the same brighter white wash as phosphates. It takes several chemicals, very fine tuned in a laundry detergent to equal what STPP does on it's own. This why Ariel is so cheap, it's nothing but mainly surfactants, washing soda, oxygen bleach, enzymes and STPP. With STPP you can scrap lots of the other things one finds in say TWB, such as polymers and such.

Personally find all variations of Ariel migraine inducing because of the scent. Persil Megaperls on it's own gives damn good results, kicked up a notch with some STPP, it is perfect. Same goes for Tide "Pro" Stain detergent.

Then again the tubs of Ecolab professional detergent give great white washes as well, but they contain about 30 to 40 percent STPP.
