Hi all. Today was using the 74 Kenmore and I have been using Tide original liquid and powder for quite some time now. Currently am using Gain powder and liquid Tide original.

I did a medium load of my usual colored cottons and used only about 1/2 capful of liquid Tide.

The first rinse still had foam, and by the second rinse it started off clean looking, but by the end of the 2 minutes the water was just as cloudy and foamy as the first rinse.

I guess the heavier weight fabrics retain more detergent residue but I need something clean rinsing. Maybe it's the washer ? I filmed two delicate loads and they were quite frothy but by the rinse the water was clear. Weird.

I love liquid Laundersol, seems to clean everything, and leaves absolutely no reside that I can detect, and has absolutely no smell. What perfumes I'm not allergic to I find sensorially overwhelming.

Hi Jerome. These "packs", are they pods ? I generally don't use them. I tried Persil liquid several years back when I had my Speed Queen toploader. It was quite sudsy then. I don't remember how the rinsing was with it though.

Ultralux88 I'll have to give that a try. Never used laundersoll before.

I went back to using Kirkland powder. Usually gets all the suds out from rinsing and no scents are left behind. Last time I used Persil liquid, it created so many excessive suds and it was an HE jug so I'm only sticking to powder for now on.

Persil suds

Alex, a long time ago I got a bottle of Persil liquid. This was back when I still had the WP Duet. I kept reducing the dosage as I got used to it but suds and rinsing were such a problem. It took a whikle to get rinsed out, especially with towels. I was glad when I finally finished the bottle and went back to Tide poqwder.

When I used arm & Hammer powder in the past it wound up clogging up the wash baskets holes with mineral deposits. We were using that detergent for a while with our first direct drive.

I like arm & Hammer but I don't want to take a chance with it. Or at least not use it as much as we did in the past.

Did anybody ever experience anything like that before

I will say that if you have more sensitive skin, and you want to be absolutely certain there's no residue, add either vinegar, or preferably something like Downey Rinse+Refresh or some other acidic rinse additive. I started, by recommendation here, using plain vinegar, until I started seeing these laundry sour things for sale at the store, found they are a bit more acidic, which lends itself to even softer towels, the glorious hotel style towel feel I'd be chasing comes from this. Soft, luxurious feeling, but without the slimy, non-absorbent feel usually gotten from fabric softener on towels.

Well, I did run a load of towels in the SQ for the first time WITHOUT anything in the rinse, and I didn't notice a difference between that and the first load I did WITH the stuff.

I know what the culprit is on my machine for the frothy wash. It's the self cleaning filter.

It has a kind of underwater snorkeling sound to it that I can hear in the drain hose. I think it's a cool sound.

It aerates the water and so I usually get froth or bubbles in the wash and rinse regardless of the little amount of detergent I might use.

I like Persil Universal Powder and Amway SA 8. The Persil takes about 2 tablespoons and the SA 8 takes only one, both along with STPP. They do not create a lot of suds and rinse out well in the front loaders. The Persil is about half the price of the SA 8. The 90 load box of Persil is less than $50, but that's before the tariffs kick in.[this post was last edited: 4/27/2025-21:40]

Arm & Hammer

When I first lived with Dave, he was using A&H Washing Soda.  I hated that stuff.  I had trouble putting my socks on because they were so stiff and full of residue, and he had a very capable, nearly TOL black panel Kenmore belt drive washer.  When that giant box of A&H was empty, I made sure it wasn't replaced with the same thing.  I don't remember what detergent we started using, but the problem was solved.  Anything other than A&H rinsed clean.  When I see A&H at someone's house, I just shake my head.

"I had trouble putting my socks on because they were so stiff and full of residue"

That reminds me of Fresh Start in the 1980's and 90's.
