Asko washer help/advice

A fella brought in an ASko washer and dryer to me for a consignment sale. Of course, they always tell you that it works perfectly. I hooked the washer up, can get it to fill wash and even spin but it will not drain. I pulled the lower panel, located the pump clean out, removed 51 cents. There is a tiny impeller at the back of the cleanout and that seems to be spinning. Is that tiny impeller at the back of the cleanout port the pump impeller or is there another unit inside. I'm not afraid to tear into it, but thought I would seek the advice of those more knowledgable

Never mind-fixed it

I just blew hard into the drain hose while the pump was running. Guess that little tiny impeller is the whole pump after all.

I'm still stoopid

Well, blowing into the drain hose does get it to drain, but I must do it every time. Thats not good. The drain end of the hose is a nasty thing to be sticking into my mouth (please refrain here from commenting!) and it drives me crazy because I can hear the little pump running. Once I blow into the hose, the water comes gushing out, but must be "primed" every time. Has any one had this type of problem before?

Semi-Automatic Asko

Is there a siphon break on the drain line? Remove the top panel and see if there is a check valve or siphon break near the top of the cabinet where the drain hose exits.

Is "Home Demonstration & Instruction" included with this machine? "Now it's time to put this hose into your mouth..."

That's strange David, it there a chance that the pump impeller is missing a chunk out of it, causing the pump volume to be weak until its disturbed with some air pressure?

My asko has a gravitty drain

Sorry can't help you with your pump problem since my asko is a professional with a gravity drain. But I do love it

The cwazy thing...

All the fins on the eency-weency pump impeller are intact. Once I blow air into the hose (or I could presumably inhale and get a mouthful of washer water-EEEEYech!) it pumps quick and strong. I'll tear into it today. BTW-the consignee wants the sun moon and stars for this set and now it don't even work right (sigh)

Heres what I found.

Although it looked like all was well with the pump, the story is this. I took off the pump cleanout and could see the impeller moving back there. When I place my finger on the center of the impeller, it stops moving while the motor continues to run. So, when I would blow into the drain hose, the resulting air bubble in the pump would allow the impeller to get moving with the shaft. With water in the chamber, the impeller has too much force on it to move. Now to see if I can fix the d&*#ed thing

your best bet is to just order and replace the old pump with a new one.They run about $45 at the parts places and will stop any nightmares or headaches from happening.I have had quite a few of them myself and the worst ones were an all electronic control pair I found in a dumpster at Celebration near Disney.Both boards needed replacement and cost about $300 each.However,I squawked and moaned enough to get Assko to over ride the cost.The models were less than 2 years old and other than bad boards,they were in mint condition.My friend,Deborah Morse in Atlanta still has them and has had no problems since 1998.The set I kept was newer and performs well.The dryer was fine but the washer would not pump out and the problem began from not having the trap cleaned out.There was so much s--t there that rather than enen try to clean out all the lint and scum from the trap through the drain hose assembly,i bought a new pump and drain hose and flushed out the rest of the drainage area during the repair.It works great now and even though the cycle takes for f---g ever,it does a fabulous job and a 1700 rpm spin really gets the clothes quite dry.The 200 degree FT.wash makes my socks so white you need sunglasses to put them on!!!

replace pump

Thanks landromat- you are absolutly right. I took the pump out. Now I can see that the motor is too weak to turn the impeller, it even goes back and forth some times. The pump direct from asko parts is $28.00, which seem downright reasonable.

It really is a fun little washer. I don't care for the electric door latch, but the wash action is pretty splashy, you can do a deeper rinse and I love how fast and how hot it heats the water. Would be a nice machine for a single or couple, although I am spoiled by the Hettie, being able to wash huge comforters and rugs.
