good stuf, but not sure I agree about putting sponges in

I would think the germs lurking deep in the sponge would not be removed by the dishwasher - washing machine would be better.

But I hate sponges anyway and never user them....

To sanitize our sponges (which I don't like anyway) we dip them in some bleach water and then microwave them for 40 seconds or until they are hissing really good.
Definitely santized then.

I do wash the sponges in the washer with high temperature. The dishwasher detergent would dissolve the sponge slowly and clog the dishwasher.

for sanitizing kitchen sponges.

My biggest question I must ask, does that include heated drying for sanitizing or air drying which I use exclusively when I use the sanitized function?

E How gives tips which I think is an over kill or a warning because detergent MFG's took out the phosphate from the detergent.

I meant to comment on this topic a few days ago but got detained with some other stuff.

Believe me...if there was some way I could afford a dishwasher (portable) or move into a apartment complex (that I could afford) where a built-in dishwasher was available, I'd do so in a heartbeat. But, until that day arrives, I'll continue with hand dish washing (like I have a choice?)

Although I do have some, I'm not a big fan of sponges. I use dish rags for dishes and wiping up spills on the counters and stove.

Can a dish rag go in the microwave by itself (including one with a nylon net around it) to sanitize it? Will it possibly catch fire? Would putting it in a bowl with water and letting the water boil for a few minutes be a better solution?

Inquiring minds want to know.
