Well, I'm pretty sure I have the best boyfriend ever... He got up on a Sunday even earlier than he does for work during the week and drove with me to Beverly Hills, MI to pick up this gem! Upon arrival, we discovered that the seller had tried to call and text me saying that they just realized that the dryer must have a broken belt because it turns on just fine but the drum doesn't turn. I returned there call as I was sitting in there driveway at the specified pickup time and apparently woke them up. Oops. They were very nice about it and told me that it was fine if we didn't want the dryer anymore or we could take it for free and "at the very least get some money for the scrap metal." Naturally I decided to take the dryer and I'd get a look at it when we got home. They did turn it on to show me that it does start up but the drum doesn't turn. Very nice people too!
We got the dryer home and I immediately began taking it apart to see what the problem might be. I removed the back panel and... Well, the belts are all in place... I turn it on with the back panel off and it seemed to try REALLY hard to turn everything but it just couldn't so the motor pulley spun on the belt in place. It seems that the blower wheel is actually really difficult to turn (with all the belts popped off) so I'm thinking that's the culprit. The drum also seems to have some rough spots too though and I really have no clue how these dryers work exactly... So... HELP! Please!!!
I was disappointed but not surprised that the console light didn't work but I was surprised to see that it was missing. Fortunately, we tried to buy a light for... One of my other machines... I think the 66 Kenmore washer... Which turned out to have an odd size and the bulb we bought was useless. So it sat on the kitchen counter waiting to be returned until the 90 day window expired and we stuck it in the basement. VOILÀ! It's a perfect fit in the Maytag dryer. Now I just need a new starter for the light which we'll be getting from Lowes shortly. The dryer cleaned up quite well, no rust except for the back panel, just some scratches and only 1 chip in the porcelain top,
The previous owners seemed to think that it wasn't drying very well because it was getting old so they replaced it, not surprisingly, it seems they didn't know this dryer had a lint filter. The lint was very full and compacted.
Pictures will come very shortly (as soon as I grab Mike's laptop) as it appears I can't post photos from my iPhone anymore. (iOS 9.0.2 bug perhaps?)
