Ban SUV's NOW!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

you guys need more diesels out there and the french to invade with there cars

thats another reason i like my french car - head room. I am over 6 foot and have lots of leg room and a good couple of inches aboive my head - that is not even with the seat all the way back

The french diesels really do put VW to shame, reason i say this is because i pulled up at home, took the front off my radio and there was silence, the air con vents were louder than the engine

Exploder

No need to worry...

I'm a GIRL HUGGER lol. Well, at least one girl comes to mind and she's in the front room watching a James Bond movie.

Thats good... At least your quilfied..
Do you run bio-diesel in it??? We have that several places here, but the nice service lady at the ford dealership where i take me explorer and truck said that it ruins the fuel tank and other parts as people usualy run to high of something in them...

Biodiesel

I don't see how Biodiesel can be bad for anything. It's little more than cooking oil with other chemicals in it to make it work in a car. I've never tried it but I read the car smells like a deep fryer when it's running.

You can buy the machine to make it for about $3000. It takes waste vegetable oil and some chemicals and makes fuel out of it.

Something about it devarnishes the tank and cloggs the fuel ports...I know the thing she showed me was full of paint chips and the people where using 12% bio diesel in there Ford Van... Only supposed to use 5%

There is a lot of info on tdiclub.com about biodiesel. The big problem with it is that it is pretty much a cottage industry everywhere, which means that quality control can vary greatly. If you get good stuff, then the blends (blended with regular diesel) work great. If you get crappy stuff then it may be full of water which will rapidly destroy a diesel injection pump . . . there have been a few photos of failed injection pumps which look like old washer pumps inside, all rusty and nasty. VW will not warranty any injecton system damage due to water and contaminants in the fuel, whether it is bio or regular diesel. Some guys with good fuel have run happily for years on the bio blends.

SVO (vegetable oil) is more complex, as it requires specialized heating systems and such to run without any regular diesel. There is one company here in LA which specializes in conversions of old Mercedes diesels to use this, and get that french-fry smell. Those old injection systems are a lot simpler because they are mechanical, whereas the newer ones are completely computer controlled. Kind of like the difference between messing with a mechanical washer timer and an electronic one . . . you can do very little work on modern VW without a computer program, thankfully ross-tech.com makes one for a reasonable price.

The ironic thing about the SVO is that is pollutes the least, but is illegal to use since no auto manufacturer rates or produces their vehicles to use it. So far CARB (California Air Resources Bureau) and other state burocracies have ignored the small conversion shops, which is the only sensible thing to do.

I thought I would ask the question not about crazy SUV drvers-but what about insane SPORTS CAR drivers? Some of them beleive the road is their race track-and drag strip. They wizz by you at insane speeds and cut you off-I remember one years back-did that and cut me off-but a cop spotted him and pulled him over!! Thank goodness.Sports cars are kinda neat-but some of those drivers are trying out to be "Speed Racer"!Something about all those ponies under the hood-they just want to try them out!

Hmm!

Didn't we go over this a year or so ago?

I'm not selling my truck.

I talk on the cell phone and drive.

I drink coffee and drive.

I put on lipstick and drive.

I program the the clock to E/T and drive.

I stay in my lane.

I do the speed limit.

Only tailgate when some dumbass is driving under the speed limit. ( then cussing usually follows)

I use my turn signals.

I want a BIGGER truck too.

Now,Mr Veg! For this comment.
Quote:The bigger the SUV, the less likely it is to be driven by someone who actually needs it.
*SMACK*

If I didn't have a truck, how on earth would I get a sheet of drywall home? Have you ever tried to pull a trailor with appliances with a bug?

Thanks Mark!
I fell in love with the 55 Cadillacs the first time I ever saw one. The golden age for Cadillac was the 1950's. So the model year of 1955 is right smack in the middle.

how about this clunker has 300,000 miles on it

I`m still driving it it`s a 1988 chevy S-10 well got my $2,500 out of it when I bought it in 1991

one more!!

this is my 1976 chevy C-10(its 30 years old!!!) has over 200,000 miles got it from a buddy in 1990 traded him a VCR & microwave for it ,& use it for waht the S-10 can`t haul, the S-10 gets 30 mpg on highway so drive that one mostly

Hey Beth, the point he was trying to make was NOT that driving an SUV was bad, but using one for daily transportation was bad. I hardly believe you are hauling drywall and lumber everyday!, like when you're driving to work, the grocery store, etc. For that, give the rest of us a break, and use a car....save the SUV for the big jobs, and thank you for using the CORRECT vehicle for those big jobs, and also thank you for being a little more consideriate when you drive that said vehicle....although I still stand my ground that when driving a vehicle, that should be the ONLY think that one does...it's not an office, phone booth, home theater, beauty parlor, restraunt etc! IT'S A CAR FOR GOD SAKES!!!

One thing I have been wondering however is why the diesel engine has not been utilized in SUV's as much. GM made a few blazers and suburbans back in teh late 80's with them, but they don't anymore. The diesel engine is the perfect mate to an SUV. It makes them get much better mileage, and the added torque is perfect for hauling, towing, and off-roading.

The "rice burners"

I have some teen friends that own their fair share of 21st century hot rods. Really that is what they are. We had our Chevy's, Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Fords, and Mopars. We did our share of drag racing, chasing, burnouts, and all the other stuff that we should not have done. In other words we were no angels on the road either. The cars may have changed, but the "teen testosterone" has always been the same.

In many ways the rice burners are safer than the lumbering acres of iron we used to race around in.We had more engine than brakes back then. The handling on the present day "hot rods" is SO much better, the brake sytems are more reliable, plus stopping is quicker, and the engines are much more fuel efficient.

My friend Travis just turned 19. He has two 1992 MR2,s He lets me drive whenever I want, and I have to admit they are a lot of fun.The fastest he has ever driven with me was 110 mph,and that was fast enough.
I go to his summer car shows, and he goes to mine. I am impressed with the technology that is used to make these little cars faster.I have a mechanical background, so I am intrigued. The ways in which we made our muscle cars faster was more expensive and harder to do. Today the game is easier on the wallet and the knuckles.

Here is a photo of my 58 Chevy Belair I had during high school. I changed the engine from a 283 CID to a 409 CID. It had 345 HP, and yes we raised hell in it.

I had 3 friends killed in hot rod car crashes during high school. Travis graduated in June, and none of his friends died. While I realize that both of these generations of hot rods are dangerous, I do have to say that the rice burners are less dangerous than the muscle cars we used to drive.

Steven,

I work from home so, I don't commute. Unless I'm taking job suppiles to Dean.

I can not stand riding in a car.

If you seen the way Dean eats, when I go to the store... Trust me I need a truck!LOL! Plus buying softner salt, dog food (she's pig too)

Normally everything I do involves the bed of the truck.

Plus, I just don't feel safe sitting 4in. off the ground.
