Bare Floor Vacuums

I'm not sure why the cement floors were tinted or colored. I remember my mom used to polish them, about once a year. That's when the area rugs would get taken out to the clothesline and given a good beating. Why she did that, I'll never know as well, as she used to vacuum them.

We had friends, when I was growning up that lived around 27th Avenue and Indian School Road. Near the now gone Indian Drive In. They had a wonderful 50's home One of those with a flat roof and the white quartz rocks on it.

Many housewives felt vaccuming just didn't get all the dirt the way a good beating in the fresh air would. Also airing out rugs is a good way to freshen them without resorting to chemicals.

Natural fiber rugs in particular benefit from a good "airing" and such airings were routine as part of "spring cleaning". Fresh air and sunshine are some of the best disenfectants/fresheners around.

I was visiting a vac store in my area-and a lady came in looking for a vac to do her bare floors-she was allergenic and replacing her carpets with tile and hardwood floors-the vac store man came up with a possible answer-and invited her to take the machine home with her to try. It is a Miele "Art" series upright vacuum cleaner that is specifically designed for hard flooring.the machine is suction only and doesn't have a rotating roller brush.Instead it has felt like material on the edges of its floor nozzle lips.I tried one as well-an interesting unit.It has a short hose and wand so it can do limited canister jobs too.The machine will only pick up surface dirt on carpets.It does nicely on the hard floors in that vac shop.also a suction only canister would work for hard floors as well.Many out there to choose from. that Miele machine ranges from $320-420.

I've been looking at that Miele vacuum too, but I'm hesitant to get one. It's a very big machine and I find it hard to move around furniture that is close together. A canister with a parquet brush is much easier to handle IMHO.

Well, I hate to admit it but...

I use a shop vac, with drywall bags in it! If I tried to use a swifter I would get one pass through the living room and that would be it!
I know I'll probably get hate mail for this post but, the truth is the truth. 50 bucks Lowes! It has a handle on the top so it's easy to do the stairs.
