For all of you unfortunately still ensconced in old man winter, I just wanted to share a picture or three of this past weekends' events in Myrtle Beach, SC at Bear Hunt 2008. The weather was a balmy 85 F, and the ocean, as you'll see, was perfect. For those of you not up on your Bear culture, Bears are the larger (not always) and more hirsute of the male of the species who frequently get together for fun and -ahem- fellowship. Think of it as "masculinity without the trappings". With over 375 attendees from all over the US and Canada, there was a LOT of, shall we say, fellowshippin' goin' on from about 9 a.m. til 3 a.m. for 4 days!

oooho that's Like Santa Saturday in New Hope, PA (a/k/a "No Hope" to the sistahs)

The Saturday after Thanksgiving there is a similar event to raise money for the local elderly/needy.

Lotsa bears, slave auctions, sale of leather accessories etc.
You know the drill. Need I say more?

Let's just say it's EXTREMELY convenient that I have (blood) family a few miles/km from there!

I spent some of Uncle George's tax incentive $$$ on a new half-harness, matching armbands and other leather accessories.. The President never said how we were to spend our incentive checks! ;0

GRRRRS and WOOOFS!!!

I've been rather nervous to bring this up, but are there any other BEARS on here and on BEAR411? I know of two so far. My name on there is buckinmo. The above pics are damn WOOFY!!!

It is SOOOO nice to see someone from the BEAR culture who shared my passion for washers and other "interests" on here like I do. I guess there is a God. :)

I'm not a bear, or even a cub for that matter, but I love Bear Week in Provincetown. The bears are so nice and down to earth, not like the cookie cutter Ken dolls who have lots of attitude and not much else!
Bobby in Boston

I'm So Envious

So many bears, and such a shame that I'm not there to enjoy it. Oh well. Las Vegas will have its third-annual Bear Pride this Saturday. so I can enjoy my furry friends--and vice versa.
Here's to us--the few, the proud, the grizzly!

Dave! WOOF to you and the many other hot bears at the Hunt! Partner and I have attended Lazy Bear Weekend a few times and found that to be way too cliquey with "published" bears standing and modeling and nobody having any real "fun." The Hunt looks like a blast (well, many blasts I would hope) and a much more down to earth scene. Sure wish I could have been there!

Can I get a set of pix like the ones you sent Lawrence? Please ;-)

"published" bears??

I can certainly think of one bear in particular you might be referring to. One who's from the bay area, has a fake name and whom we could possibly describe as being OVER "published"? It's unfortunate that that element has to be such a prolific part of the bear community. This community does so much within itself for a world of guys who have never fit in to the "gay clone" mold of fascism and body politics. I do miss having a profile on BMB or the 411 site, but I had a once in a lifetime chance to get a really great job in the oil/gas industry. The are bears out there in the "oil patch" where I work, except they're looking at Playboy centerfolds. They wouldn't understand the M4M bear scene and I'm not qualified to explain it to them. I yanked all my pics off the internet and I'm flying under the radar these days.
