Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Here's the similar Kenmore mixer I found this past summer at a garage sale, still needs some cleaning up and one of the beaters needs a little soldering. I didn't get the bowl with it but some of the others fit.
Not the bowl adjuster on the back end

My grandmother had a Sunbeam Model 10- It finally quit after about 40 years of use-- but I always loved that mixer as a kid-- brings back a lot of good memories of being with her in the kitchen.

KENMORE

Pete, I'm not sure if you've used this model of Kenmore but they are a great machine. In 1956 the beater spindles froze on the model 11 causing it to fail the Consumer Reports endurance run. The Kenmore was the top rated mixer which would have finished second to the Sunbeam. It is very powereful, quiet until you hit the top speed and like all Birtman machines when you deaccelerate it sounds like the motor stops and then it resumes at the lower speed. I have always wondered if Consumer Reports oiled the mixer as the manual directed. It was not a known issue with the model 11 run, esentially the same as the 10 with a cosmetic restyle of the front escutcheon.

Objectionable content

Ralph, I love double entendre and have a sardonic sense of humor. I try to temper it and thought of the title assuming no one get it unless they were already doing it. The more innocent would think of it as a cook off or run off in comparing the machines. I fully understand your concern and accept the webmaster judgment if the thread should be pulled. I apologize if it made your children uncomfortable and knowing they are on the site, I will be sure the censure my posts in the future. Please accept my apology.

Ralph....

are you being rotten to the core again?

now go back and SHAKE you MARTINini, don't STIR it.....

don't you just love the speed descriptions.....

at least your not "WHIPPED!".....lol

"at least you're not WHIPPED"

I'm not so sure about that Martin, but I'll restrain myself from commenting about whipping anything up even if it would be in keeping with the subject--if not the spirit--of this thread. Let's not go totally hijacker on Sandy here as this thread gets bumped up.

KitchenAid Spatula?

Kelly, I have read you not one to do much bowl scraping during mixing, have you tried a KitchenAid spatula having the same contour as the KitchenAid mixing bowls?

Spatula Beater

I haven't used the new beater. I prefer the 6 quart wide bowl Kitchenaid. I never, ever, scrape the bowl. I also seldom turn it above speed 4. That was nothing gets stuck to the side. It is really loud but thorough. The Kitchenaid that grieves me most to use is the K5 and I would think this beater is good for that machine. In my experience, I haven't felt like I needed it. I wish Kitchenaid or an after market make an all purpose beater available like the one on the 4C. The 4C is an amazing mixer and again with it I don't scrape.

What's the opinion out there on the after-market paddle retrofits they sell to scrape the sides of KA mixing bowls? I'm not so sure they would work right, and they are pricey.

After reading the thread about the Beater Blade, I went ahead and ordered one (and you are right, it is pricey!). I have only used it once so far for mixing meat loaf and it did an excellent job. I am sure for batters, cream, etc. it will do an excellent job as well.

It sounds like that thread had good things to say about the KA thing if it prompted Gary to order one. If his reviews are typical, then I may surprise my partner with one as his birthday isn't that far off.
