Beautiful Early GE Frost Guard BF Combination (Sacto CL)

It's overpriced, but to its credit, it's complete and in great shape, and has no pesky serpentine coil. 

 

The pictures are worth a look for fans of these fabulous refrigerators.   It's too big for the space I have, otherwise I'd wait a while and make a low-ball offer.  I'm guessing it's a '59 or '60.

1960 GE Combination Refrigerator

This was the first of these very well designed and durable GE Refs, the same cooling system was also used in a 30 1/2" bottom freezer model and the 41" wide rare Americana models. GE kept this 34" wide box in production till around 1970.

 

The major weak point to the ones built through around 1965 were early compressor failures, if someone is buying the one in the ad be sure that the compressor has been replaced, if the ref was in regular-constant use it was probably replaced a few decades ago.

 

About 1966 GE greatly improved the quality of some key parts of their compressors and after this time you almost never saw one fail.

Thanks for the info John.  I need the 30.5" model due to space limitations.  Did they sport the same exterior treatments as the one above, or were they more plain looking?

1960s GE bottom freezer refrigerator's

The smaller size had virtually all the same features as the bigger ones although the larger 34 inch wide models were the real flagship of GE refrigerators throughout the early to mid 60s.

Thanks.  I really like the gold strip with the vertical "Combination" script.  It seems GE dropped that term at some point in the early '60s.
