Bendix Autodrier De Luxe 7448

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

What a machine! My friend had the model up from yours. The only difference i could see is that the machine had no door handle. You opened the door by turning the temperature knob anti clockwise I think!

Good to see the drier in action, never saw it on. Only saw the matching washing machine.

My 1st washer I ever bought was a round door Bendix 800rpm. Got it second hand, loved that machine.

The dryer looks lovely, and in very good condition. You guys have a great collection!! Are all your machines in storage or do you have space to keep a couple at home as well?

7128?

could the 7128 be the matching washer, it has one button and one dial which is on/off, with no optional buttons, and a 500 rpm spin speed, i have this machine, its great i posted a thread a few weeks ago asking about the matching dryer for it and the 7448 which you have just aquired was supposidley the match, heres the link , thanks servisslimline

Hi Rob and Paul

Glad you're enjoying your new aquisitions, that dryer has a lovely tumble speed, sometimes the hoovers seem too fast and the hotpoints too slow, but that gives almost the perfect tumble, does it reverse, I assume not as you've not shown it. I hope this afternoons product testing was successful.

BALLS

Hello Rob

Thanks for that, i remember the cloth/plastic top one and the liquid ariel one, butr i must admit to being a boring old fart and i always preferred powders in the soap draw.

Ah yeah and the little cloth bag in the packet my mate used for those tablets .

Going back again, i remember seeing some large Tea Bags which had washing powder in them............christ is there no end to the ways of getting cleaners into washing ;-)

I remember an ariel advert stating that there dispenser "got right to the heart of the wash" yeah yeah not in modern low level washers, oh and do you remember another ariel advert saying "it might look clean but is it really clean" what aload of marketing crap LOL........I think ariel are the worst offenders for advertising spin, but of course there is no end to it, as we see now with aerial gel persil small and mighty, turn to 30 and on and on............but it is all part of advertising history etc

oh and that talking washing machine used in the "Wisk" adverts............

Argh i better stop............im too old and remember too much :-)

So I am glad you enjoyed my balls :-)

Gary

Ps does that Hoover exclusive sound any good to you Rob ?

Oh bloody hell, Gary.....

I forgot to mention the exclusive to him.

Have just had a couple of texts off Rob, asking about it.

Back ovr to Rob....

Apologies for my forgetfulness.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Hi David.
You mention the dryer with the door release on the dial.
I am perplexed by that and mine/Robs machine, in that both are model 7448!
Whilst moving the machine into store today, Rob discovered a sticker on the bottom, which was from the motor - labelled 'PHILCO' and dated 11/84.

Our machine is also a 7448/1 so, clutching at straws, might our machine be the early version, with the manual door handle release, whilst the machine I post a picture of below is the later/final version?

The only difference appears to be the door release function.

Any thoughts?

Paul

Hi Paul.

Unfortunately neither myself or Rob are in a position to keep large appliances in either of our homes.
So, rather irritatingly, its generally a case of find a machine and take it to Robs to check it out (where all the photos are taken). We can maybe keep it there for a day or so, but then it goes into storage.

The Bendix dryer and another machine, that i also collected last weekend and for which a thread will be set up soon, were taken to out new storage site today.

Far from ideal, but the best that can do at the moment.

cheers

Ever Decreasing Circles

Hi Chris.

You jogged my memory of that great show from the 80s'

They did indeed have one of the matching Bendix washers, to our dryer.

If i remember rightly, you never really saw their washing machine - i get the impression that it was under where the camera was, when you had a view of the kitchen.

I do remember one episode, when Martin was having a particularly bad day, and he had some words with the machine.
Basic and vague recollections were that the machine was on and Martin thought it was taking the piss out of him.

He started talking to it and whenever he asked a question to the machine, you got a full TV screen view of the machine, when it should have been responding to him.

Must try and find EDC's on youtube.

Cheers
Paul

Hi Philip.

Yes, this will be the matching dryer to your wasing machine. Uncanny that one turns up a merely week after you asked the question whether a match existed.

This is just the impression that i get but, barring the compacts that were about, model 7448 (in its two guises) was the only model Bendix produced and matched the entire range of washers.

I have never seen a single dial and option button equipped dryer from this range.

I post a piccy of an exhibition (not my own piccy), dated 1983, where Bendix showed off their wares.
The facias appear to show (top to bottom)...

single dial/possibly single button washer
single dial/three button washer
double dial/double button washer
double dial dryer
double dial (one a 'timedial')/six button washer

I think the picture shows the original line up, as other variations came in the range, but the dryer appeared to be a constant double dial machine - unless someone else knows otherwise.

Be really interested to know about the other versions of machines from this range! I will post some pics in a bit.

Cheers
Paul
