Beware- P&G has changed Ultra Downy "April Fresh" scent.

Stopped by Publix last week and thought I would give the new Ultra Downy, "April Fresh" a try. I normally use Downy Non-Concentrated, or Final Touch.
Well, to my surprise, this is not the Downy we all grew up with. The scent was very strong and left my clothes smelling rancid!
So much for the new & improved "Scent Pearls"!
P&G really blew it with this one!

Wow I am glad that I am not the only one that thinks the scent of the"new" Downy smells rancid and it also smells "sour" to me. I have been stockpiling the Downy that is in the refill box. I can still find the original scent in those. But eventually those will be depleted too.
The first time I tried the new Downy I thought it was exceptionally strong smelling. Whats odd is that the entire Downy line has that sour scent to it. I did buy Final Touch Spring Fresh scent and while it smells nice, when clothes come out of the dryer there is no scent like I didnt use anything. I am going to get a hold of the dryer sheets and see how those do.

I mistakenly thought the pink cap Downy was the original scent. Then after taking the cap off the bottle there's this strong unpleasant scent. I tried it and I'm not a fan! This "new pearls" scent is bad and hopefully there will be enough complaints that Proctor & Gamble go back to the old one. Haven't they learned from the "New Coke" disaster? You don't screw with tried and true! - Mike L.

Haven't smelled it and don't want to. We've gone scent free as much as possible at home now.. .not for any allergy reasons or anything just that they've all got too too strong. Febreeze scents in everything now seem to be the worst offenders.

What's odd though is that there seems to be an inordinate amount of folks claiming problems with fragrances incl perfumes etc, many hospitals and offices are now banning fragrances yet there's more and more ad hype than ever for these and other stinky products. Whats up with that.

You can find Final Touch at Albertsons, Winn Dixie, Sedanos, and Bravo Supermarkets. Publix does not carry it. neither does Target or Wal-Mart.

I too gone scent free, and I don't mind it at all. I've had a few customer who really stinks with some of these fabric softeners! Ugh... But guess it better than smelling the smokers.

I should take a sniff of this new Dawny for just kicks.

April Fresh Downy

I wrote Proctor and Gamble, I called them. They had the nerve to tell me how many other wonderful scents they had, and that I should try one of the others.
I told them don't insult me...I use one and it's the only one I like. April Fresh Downy, and not the new one...It's putrid and smells so bad, I had to rewash all my whites and use chlorine to get the smell out.
I have used April Fresh Downy for about 30 years, and I know that from time to time it did change a little, but this is overwhelmingly nasty and nothing like the product I thought I was buying. (plus, it was a gigantic one, and I won't use it, so it's sitting there)
Then they had the nerve to tell me, try Downy free and clear...I told them that I don't use it, don't want it, I want my original April Fresh back...and I got no answer, just the sorry and we'll tell our "whoever"
So, I have found something by another company and I'm using that. It has a very faint smell, and it's not my April Fresh, but I will use it until, if ever, they realize what they've done and change it back. Purex by Henkel. Bye Bye Proctor and Gamble...........

The number is 1-800-688-7638 to complain about the new scent. I was also informed today that the non concentrated scent was changed as well. This is such a damn shame! Let's all boycott P&G!

Up & Up

I have found that Target's Up & Up Fabric Softener in the "Spring Fresh" variety smells very similar to the "old" April Fresh Downy. Just not quite as strong, but a pleasant frangrance none the less. I hate the new April Fresh Downy, it stinks. LOL

I emailed Protor and Gamble also and received a reply today. I was also told to try one of the other scents or the Downy Free, which I am using now but would like some type of scent. They are also sending me a coupon for a free bottle. I am hoping to find a refill of the old arpil fresh Downy, but after that I am going to either try purex or target brand.

I've been on a boycott of P&G for sometime now. The price they charge for their products is outragous. Not to mention they keep changing the scents. I've always used and like Gain, but won't buy it anymore just because it's P&G. Ultra Plus with Oxiclean is now my detergent and I use "all" small and mighty for nicer/delicate things.

They are in a market segment to win it, or they sell the line.

As for "April Fresh," it's GONE.  Just face it.

Well, it looks like 95% of the comments left on Downy.com regarding the New "April Fresh", Downy are negative. IMO- The entire Product Development team should be fired because of this blunder! They could have at least left the non-concentrated version, (which I use) the same.

That is the most disgusting thing I have smelled in a long time. Now what do I do with the rest of this bottle? Lets see if they will post my comment. Somehow I doubt it.

I would encourage you to call Downy @ 1-800-688-7638 and voice your displeasure. I did, and they sent me a refund check, no questions asked. All I had to do was give them the numbers on the top of the cap.
