"Intersting". I dind't realize these super large dryers wre being made while the "old" style control panels were around--I don't think I"ve ever seen one like this with that style panel.

I saw that exact model at a resort in Pennsylvania during the summer of 1988. I could not believe there was a dryer this size, but there it was larger than life. I have not seen one since with the exception of the occasional one that pops up here. I wonder how GE described its capacity when marketing it. Monster capacity would probably have been accurate.

Have a good one,
James

I really liked mine that came with my 1978 GE extra large or super capacity washer. I jsut wish it had a medium heat setting for Perm Press. the low heat was timed dry only too.

We had this exact dryer at our summer home until 2004

My mom hated it because she said it took for ever to dry clothes compared to her gas Whirlpool Imperial Seventy here at home. I remember someone on this forum had said that these Jumbo (as GE called them) dryers had a big flaw in the fact that they used the blower from the standard capacity GE dryers so the air current inside was not very powerful. Appnut they were making the Jumbo dryers as early as 1970

I have a picture of a 1970 Versatronic Model in my copy of A Walk in the Park: The History of Ge's Appliance Park and I also have a 1971 Life Magazine where the first edition of this exact dryer is on sale....PAT COFFEY
