When i first left London back in 1999 & moved to Lowestoft in Suffolk I gave my away my Hotpoint WM63 in Cassata green colour to my cousin.
Then wanted to buy a durable heavy duty washing machine.
After a very extensive look I came across a brand called Blomberg.
I ended buying the 1501 AAA rated washing machine.
I was well impressed with the 1500rpm spin speed & other features that it had.
But a few things struck me.
It was a very HEAVY washing machine, very noisy when at full spin speed if it was a little unbalanced.
It also made a very click/clunk noise when going into top speed as if it was selecting another gear.
I also found it had a terrible time of pre-filling with water when it was on the main wash as the water level always looked rather low even though it gave a very good wash.
But I had endless amounts of fun or joy watching it in action & it always looked like an old fashion machine with its quirky dials, knobs & buttons.
Would be nice to know if any others had this model & how did they find it & any pictures of it.
Or indeed if anyone still has one now in good working order??

The picture below is not mine but just to show what model I'm talking about.
Oh, by the way I gave it away to my ex mother-in-law in kent when I split from my partner.
Any idea who or what group Blomberg belongs too??

My brother had this machine for 8 years with no problems! It eventually died of bearing failure having done cotton 40 with 1500rpm every cycle of its life!

It was a great machine!

Hi Darren & nice to know it lasted 8 years.
To me it was one of the most interesting washing machines that I had owned.
I'd love to see more pictures of it but proving hard to find.
When I had it, the washing machine was fault free indeed.
I wonder if Blomberg is a slightly lesser German owned manufacturer??
All I know is, it weighed a TON when it came to moving.

Blomberg

- was founded in 1883 as a metal-processing company
- started producing washers in 1949
- was bought by Elektra Begrenz in 1978
- made its first fully electronic washer in 1981
- first washer with less than 100 liters consumption in 1985
- became part of Italian EL.FI. in 1992
- became part of French Brandt in 1994
- was sold to Arçelik in 2002
- still engineers appliances in Germany today

WOW such good information
And I wonder if todays Blombergs are as good as the 1501 AAA that I used to own??

Probably not. But that's the general trend in the industry. That being said, though, our consumer magazine puts its washers through 1800+ cycles during the durability test and a BEKO went through this test with no faults. It's a really great budget brand.

We had

a 1301A when I moved to the UK in 2001. It was a fantastic machine and I've often wished we shipped back to Oz rather than selling it with the flat.

Given that this model Blomberg is effectively a Brandt and the new ones are pretty much Beko, I'd suggest that the new ones would be of similar quality and longevity.
