I was wondering what detergent people are using for boil washing. I currently sparingly use Persil powder that I bought up discontinued a while back, but I'll be out of it soon.

I've tried other powders, like the Kirkland bucket, which tends to over-suds, and standard Tide powder, which seems to break down and get smelly with 200 degree heat. I can still use liquid Persil, but my Miele doesn't have provision for liquids in the second stage of wash. The dispenser will hold a powder just fine, but all liquid ends up in round one.

Does anyone know of a powder that can withstand high temperature washing?

Ohh, that's a tough one......

Won't be a liquid detergent, that can be sure. In fact don't think any powdered American detergent can withstand temps > 180F without issues. Well maybe on commercial or industrial laundry side, but that is a different ball of wax.

What are you washing that boil wash temps are wanted?

Is it American or German Henkel Persil liquid you are using for high temperature/boil washing?

Know the German version (and likely elsewhere in Europe Henkel flogs the stuff) works between temperatures 68°F (20°C) and 203°F (95°C), wasn't sure about American gel however.

Are you using this liquid in your older Miele W770? There is an insert Miele sold for these washers (I have one for my W1070), that held liquid in compartment "2" when it was flushed down for main wash.

Rarely use the thing as have discovered dosing caps courtesy of Ariel Excel gel.

Persil Universal powder was never discontinued; MieleUSA (and North America for that matter) stopped importing in preparation for launch of their own branded laundry products (Ultra Phase detergent and bleach), plus fabric softener and other things.

You can still find Persil powder both Universal and Color (also Megaperls) from various online sources.

I've been using the Persil in the attached photo.

I use the 200 degree option for removing grease from tea towels, for removing sunscreen from beach towels, and for removing car detailing products from cotton items used by a detailer friend. Also use the 200 degree setting for the occasional bath towel/washcloth/hand towel reset, and I have run the stained white cotton thanksgiving napkins through with excellent results. I also have another friend who owns a pet shop with a DIY dog bath, and might try it on his towels to do the occasional reset.

It's also kinda fun to try it as a "last ditch effort" on certain items. I've recovered a few loads of white cotton undergarments for those who shall remain nameless.

I was unaware of a baffle for compartment 2! It did seem odd to me that the W765 didn't seem to have any provision for liquid detergents, though. For now, I have been using liquid Persil in compartment 1, and a small amount of Persil powder in #2.

I'll take a look and see if I can find a baffle for the W765, and put together an order from one of these retailers you suggested for some Megaperls.

Tom, do you find that the Tide breaks down in high temp washing and has a funky smell?

Ok, Now we're getting down to the nitty-gritty!

Yes, Henkel USA discontinued Persil perls, and people have been flogging the stuff on fleapay and elsewhere for insane amounts, but asking ain't getting.....

Going by online reviews German universal powder or mega perls are equal or even superior to some persons than the North American version, however YMMV.

You often can find that liquid detergent container for W700, W1065/W1070 and other Miele washers on fleaPay. Just open up your search to worldwide for best results.

With advent of pods and dosing caps or balls many simply don't bother using liquids in dispenser drawers. Personally am in agreement as find it is less messy and better results give all way round just bunging the stuff directly into drum.

Perhaps it's time to list that spare bottle of Pearls I have and add to the retirement fund! Ironic that its worth anything now, I bought the stuff closeout years back from a Walmart (which is now closed) that was part of a dead mall (now demolished). It sat for ages till we finally bought a house, and then years until my laundry room was built and the Miele was unearthed again.

The first hit on that link you posted was a place called Pharmacy At The Wave, in Manhattan Beach. Curious. A bit more googling, and lo and behold, one can reserve it and pick it up in person. The photo shows it in the English box, but a bit more searching and their google review has photos. But who would take photos of the stock of a drugstore in south Brooklyn, and what are the chances someone would know to take a photo and post evidence of this very special and unusual detergent? Well, paint me yellow and call me Homer, because look at that! See a screen capture from their google place listing.

If only it wasn't $34 in tolls for me to visit from the People's Republic Of New Jersey. Oh well. One can't have everything. Will have to think out of the box on this one.

Are you guys still down by Sayerville?

Have family further along on GSP so yes can imagine tolls from that part of NJ to Brooklyn and back would be steep.

Can save a bit for now by going back through Manhattan and taking either Holland or Lincoln, but that will take you further up in NJ, only to have to drive back down south anyway.

Just go on fleaPay; plenty of sellers and when you factor in your tolls (and time) thing often break even.

Would offer to stock up and meet you at local WaWa next time am going down your neck of woods, but thanks to covid-19 don't think there will be any large family events anytime soon.

Dear Mr. Eric, I use an equal amount of STPP with the Tide and the laundry comes out smelling very nice and fresh, sort of like the fresh ozoney fragrance around a waterfall, but as I said, the W1986 only goes to 190F, but if I needed 200F, the Creda Supaspeed 1000 Eco Wash will heat to 200F. My Persil is like the 100 load green and white box in your photo but it is a 44 load box with German labeling.

Problem with those large sized boxes of Persil

Is same for everything else nowadays; UPS, USPS, FedEx and other shipper use dimensional packing to calculate charges.

Those big boxes of detergent usually trigger DM pricing because size is not proportion to weight. That is they are heavy, but not entire box is full of detergent. But you still need some sort of outer box that thing will fit.

Then again maybe not; have seen deliveries of detergents, dog food, etc.. anything in containers simply wrapped in plastic with shipping labels slapped on. This might explain all those damaged boxes of Persil one sees on fleaPay and elsewhere.

Thank you, Laundress, for the kind offer. Perhaps some time after the world gets set back on its axis!

I sold the house in Sayreville back in 2015 and headed north to Taylor Ham country, so I suspect it would be out of the way for you. Closest Wawa is the one on 280 in Parsippany; northwest New Jersey seems a different planet altogether.

We do have a lovely friend in Belle Harbor who used to work in Secaucus, a very good boy who's the sort who'd happily pick up a box if I asked, but he's roughing the pandemic out elsewhere with family.

I'll check on eBay, as you recommend. I don't use the 200 degree wash super often, so I have the existing stock of Pearls. I would like to have a box before I have to go into the second bottle; would be nice to keep the full one for my display.

Tom, it's good to know you've had good results with Tide. My folks recently snagged a couple of boxes of powdered Tide for me from Costco. (I'd been using the Kirkland powder but recently I've not been impressed) I'm liable to give it another go and see what happens. I do need to pick up some STPP as I've been out a while.
