I was making chocolate chip cookies yesterday using this flat beater when suddenly the beater came off the post. I stopped the mixer immediately to discover that the beater had split in half right down the centre. Has anyone else had this happen?

I haven't used mine enough to break it, and won't be doing so any time soon since I switched out the loud and raspy Professional HD 5-quart bowl-lift model for a very quiet vintage pure Hobart K45 tilt-head.  I'm not sure of the scraper's manufacturer.  I don't have a scraper beater for a 4.5 quart bowl, but will shop carefully if I decide to purchase one.

If KA would give in and make one themselves, it would surely hold up better than these after-market ones, but that would be like admitting their mixers require hands-on intervention like any other.

I have the same KA beater that I picked up at Target on sale for $20. I use it to make cookies and it does quite well. But I find that with my KA mixer it labors the motor a tad at higher speeds. I use it on speeds no higher than 4. For cakes it's useless.

Was the Bojack KA beater blade made of plastic instead of metal as the KA orig ones are? That could explain it breaking-or if it was metal the center was poorly engineered.-Couldn't withstand the torque of the KA mixer motor.

I have what appears to be an identical silicone bladed paddle for my tilt head KA. The body of the beater is plastic, my guess is that its molded Polycarbonate. A slight imperfection in the plastic could cause a failure like this. I have never had any problem with mine, although in fairness it hasn't seen a lot of use. For something of thicker consistency like cookie dough I would probably use the flat aluminum paddle though.

I like mine, Not only do I not have to stop and scrape, but it catches that bit on the bottom that is often left untouched.
When making cookies, with no quantifiable evidence, I feel it creams the shortening faster, as well as makes quick work of mashed potatoes.

I should clarify what I said about the cakes comment ....I find that yes the spatula-ized beater does ok scraping down the bowl, but with cakes, I find that it doesn't incorporate enough air into the batter. The cakes don't rise as high as when I use the whisk or if I use the Sunbeam mixer with the flat beaters. This is just my opinion and experience. Your mileage may vary.....

I have a Side Swipe beater for my KA mixers, I like it very much.  With the fingers on the blade it does a very good job keeping the bowl sides clean and it's the best I've used for cake batters, lots of air incorporated very quickly.  Some of the best cakes I've ever had in a KA mixer are with this blade.  The one drawback is cleaning the blade after use, but who doesn't like to lick the beater anyway?
