Didn't See This One Coming, But Am Not Surprised
Anything made and shipped from Germany is expensive, period. As the comments state how could Bosch compete when you've got cheaper parts/product coming out of Mexico and or Asia?
Then consider shipping from Germany to the United States, again not exactly cheap including taxes and surcharges. Once the parts arrive on these shores they still must be turned into an appliance. Yes, things coming out of Mexico and Asia must be shipped, but in the former the distance is less and benefits from NAFTA; the later can use "cheaper" labour to offset costs.
Miele despite calls from some to open a plant in the United States, continues to build products for this market that are "tweaked" versions sold elsewhere. Thus one model can produce revenue from several sources.
Outside the United States do not think there is *that* large a market for uber-sized front loading washers that cannot be stacked.

The Bosch 2& machines are made in North Carolina; ie in the
Bosch's 27" machine is made in the USA, little if any is from Germany. Bosch is just a name. It is on stuff made in the USA, from China, all sorts of countries.
The ball bearings in news cars front wheel bearings are from China, so are the ball bearings in most washers made in the USA today.
Robert Bosch has gobs of different divisions. If a product has been made by Acme for 50 years and is bought by Bosch, the Bosch label is often on the product then. I was a non Bosch dealer of a product for about 40+ years and Bosch bought that company. Now I am a Bosch dealer and pay checks to Robert Bosch

I liked the smaller Bosch machines. The big ones never struck me as being too sturdy.

....the vast majority of our Bosch washers come out of Thailand......so I would suggest they can't make the American market pay....

FULL SIZED BOSCH WASHERS & DRYERS
I am not surprised they are giving up they should have not bothered in the first place. Bosch appliances are just not up to the ruggedness that most Americans expect from thier appliances. It seems that every Bosch oven I see has bent hinges and the dryers large and small are noisy and slow, to say nothing of thier terrible DWs we must throw a least one of them away a week. And I have never had anyone that had the DW ask for another one.

A real shame!
Aside from Miele, they were the only full sized machines on the U.S. market that I would have even considered buying.

So, if I'm not mistaken, this leaves Speed Queen as the only FL washer still being assembled in the US?

The price of a Miele machine in the USA is rather high.
A W4802 27" Front Load Washer with 4.0 cu. ft. Capacity is about 1750 dollars
A Miele 24" W3033 2.5 Cu ft Front Load Washer is about 2050 dollars.
A Miele 24" W3035 2.5 Cu ft Front Load Washer is about 2350 dollars.
Here when I bought a new washer last November, the lowest cost TL washer was 239 dollars, an Amana unit made by Maytag/Whirlpool. The lowest cost FL washers were 349 then. I bought an LG WM2501HVA on sale for 599, today internet prices of this unit are 795 for the lowest seller.
About the only Miele buyers I know of are large yacht owners, where a 24" machine is placed on a boat. They are used in other high end boats that service the oil industry here. where there is a crew that lives on board.
If there was a Miele unit at any local store *here* where I live that sells washers, it would sit there a long time since this area still is in a deep double dip recession.
Thus many of us here buy what is on sale and what is affordable; and the spider and unit might die in 5 years. One could buy a washer, dryer, stove, small refrigerator, dishwasher on sale for what a Miele washer costs if one works the super sales.
Many folks will not buy giant items on line sight unseen too. Thus to actually look at a Miele might take a road trip to a giant city like Chicago, Atlanta, NY or LA.
