This is just a big plug for OMO; also called an infomercial

more expensive Drive which for now still has phosphates

Nathan,

Actually, DRIVE is cheaper here than OMO and has been for some time and no longer has phosphates either - I'd suggest the warehouse your supermarket has been getting supplied from is running out of old stock. Furthermore, it isn't considered the 'premium' product it once was...that has now fallen to OMO Ultimate.

Olav,

As for 'plugging Miele', I think you'll find that part of the segment was filmed overseas in the Netherlands and/or the UK where they also commented about using other, market specific washing machines AND water to replicate conditions. I certainly saw a Fisher & Paykel machine more than once. Testing a front load detergent, why would you choose anything other than one of the best in the business? Also, as Fisher and Paykel command more of our top load market than any other brand, why include others?

Now, as for being a shameless plug for OMO and/or OMO products, what we don't know is how many manufacturers they approached (if any). However, it is pretty well known on this forum that Levers were one of the first to market a 'detergent' just as Port Sunlight and Sunlight soap go hand in hand. Another undisputed fact is that OMO (and DRIVE) have been top performers in Choice tests for years AND OMO has the greatest percentage of market share.....

....logic suggests that you go with what works. More people buy OMO than anything else AND it has a long standing history of being a top performer. That suggests that the article should appeal to more people than if any other brand was chosen....

Bias and info-mercial, possiblly....but they could effectively argue that they chose to report on what the majority of the market buys.....

Hi Chris,

Drive is usually $12.99 per kg here, the only thing dearer is Omo Ultimate. We tend to buy in bulk when it comes down to $4.99 a box.

I've just checked the boxes of Drive we bought last week, and they are the first batch that is Phosphate free, I'll be interested to see how the performance goes. The 6 week old boxes are still 2.8% phosphorus.

I've just opened my last box of the pre x2 concenctrate drive powder. The scoop is huge by comparison to the new ones and it contains 8% phosphorus. I will be sad to see the end of it.

We bought a 5kg x2 concentrate box of Omo for Michael mum, and the smell is that overpowering, she's now only using it for towels and not anything else. A load of Omo washed clothes in the dryer, makes the whole house smell overpoweringly of detergent.

The machines they were using were quite old Miele's, the Electroluxes were new in the last few years. I wonder whether they adapt the cycle config to the country they're testing for, in addition to the water quality?

For the most part we forget in Australia how soft our water is in most places, compared to the rest of the world.

Gelpacks

Hi guys, funny this has come up about the gel packs, we have just bought 2 cases of the Surf gelpacks and find them to be quite good, like most Surf products there is a big emphasis on fancy fragrances,i.e ylang, ylang and essential oils and lavender with essential oils.
Performance wise they are pretty good although I boost it a bit with White King laundry booster gel.
They are both front load formula,so I use 2 instead of 1 for an average load in the top loader haven't used it in a full load yet, wondering if 2 would suffice or should I use 3.
How do the Omo ones perform, any testers yet?
Cheers.
Steve.
