Broken Bosch dishwasher :( - a dilema.....

Hey Guys

The main control panel board on my nearly 3 year old Bosch dishwasher has decided to fry itself- the part is approx £75 cost (to me). Also ive been told its advisable to replace a relay in the detergent dispenser- another £20 odd!!

I know its not even 3 years old, but that strikes me as a lot to pay especially, when theres plenty more that could start going wrong in there grr.

To this end im considering a Miele replacement but thats gonna cost me just over £450 even @ cost. It does however come with 5 years parts and labour guarantee(knowing the price of Miele spares thats worth having!!!)and is full size as opposed to slimline(when I brought the Bosch slimline was the only option).

The model im considering is the 1st model to have the delay timer(cheap rate night washing) and also the cutlery tray- brilliant idea in my opinion - the G1220SC.

What would you guys do????

I believe that comment is not the right answer, and I also beleive your winding other members up here.

The idea of this site is to give proper answers and not silly things like you appear to be doing.

I understand you only appear to be 12 years old but sureley you can come up with more than 3 word answers to everything!

If you really love washers etc then show your passion a bit wisely and sensibly state why Seamus should not have a nice new Miele as opposed to fixing his Bosch or whichever way round!

I think your just here to wind people up and at the minute
I think your just messing around as the mood takes it.

However if there are any issues and im being too stern unecessarily please let me know.

Hey buddy I would say go for the Miele anyday if you have the money and think of the extra time, water and electricity you will save as opposed to a slimline.

My old zanussi slimline DW4123 i think it was2005 model I had last year was great but it did wind me up that it holds 1/4 less dishes and you still have to use a whole Finish tab tho! lol.

But your story puts no confidence in me about my Hotpoint DW31 (Bosch). Especially as my mums borrowing it off me at the minute until i get my own place sorted. I cant keep an eye on it. Good machines, they wash rinse and dry well, its just a shame they are not as reliable as they used to be IMHO.

I think you should first answer the question as to whether or not you prefer to have a full size machine vs. the slimline machine. If you prefer the full size machine, then certainly go for the Miele. You can't go wrong with Miele, as long as you don't mind paying the price for it!! You'll certainly enjoy good performance from it.

Thats why I didnt reply lol .

Me thinks the Miele is gonna be the one - as well as getting it at cost I get to pay for it by having £10 a week taken out my wages-dont really notice it then .

I did briefly also consider the Electrolux Insight with the window door - however theres less than £100 difference in the cost and Electrolux dont have any for 4-5 weeks- I aint gonna wash up for that long lol!!!.

We have a Miele in Stock so hopefully should be ok for Monday

Miele would be my choice of dishwasher. My neighbour has one and she absolutely loves it. Says it's the best DW she's had.

Remember if you compromise and the other machine goes wrong, you may wish you had got what you really wanted for a bit more. Go with your heart if you can afford it. I compromised on a machine I really wanted years ago. When it came to get it they had none in the country and I had to wait a month. I made a rash decision and got something else and really did regret it. I could have waited. It taught me a lesson to go for what I really want and wait if I need to.

I have to admit the full size idea also appealed- its a pain in the watsits when you cant fit in 3 saucepans or steamer bowls plus plates, jugs etc!

At our job we had an Bosch dishwasher. It also fried the control board and we decided buying a new one. Did yors smelled burned by the way? Unfortenly they did not have money enough to buy a Miele, so we ended up buying a Aeg.

BUT miele is the best so i would give you a tip to buy one. They are expensive but have 10 years warranty, always best in tests and all knows they are famous for their faboulus quality.

Just look at my familys old Miele washing machine. Its from 1975-76 but works perfect. I have decided to buy a Miele washing machine myself(To replace the Siemens).

Seamus - we've had our Miele dishwasher for a year now (G1270SCVi - the fully integrated version of the G1220SC) and it's definitely the best dishwasher we've ever had. Although the last AEG dishwasher we had was good, the Miele is miles better than even that for consistency in cleaning and also durability & quietness. Plus with ours being an integrated dishwasher we didn't fancy having to take out a fully integrated dishwasher too often for repairs .

Anyway, go for the Miele - you'll love it, and I can say that ours is the best dishwasher we've ever owned. (Second best probably being the AEG and Hoover Super Crystaljet joint, and the worst being the Zanussi-AEG hybrid).

I have had two Mieles since 1979. The first one fell down several flights of stone steps in 1989...the "new" one has been going strong ever since.
Only one repair on the old one - and Miele apologized and replaced the part for free.
B/S/H has really lost their quality over the last few years. Pity, I still have some old BOSCH stuff which was built for the ages.
Have you considered writing to their home office and asking for them to replace the parts? I can't find any proof on the 'net, but it seems this is a common problem. They might be willing to help you out. German companies are beginning to feel the heat from the Chinese and Koreans (their quality is improving rapidly) and might well want to keep the few customers they have left happy.

I don't think your comments to Adam were too harsh. I doubt he was trying to be nasty, but it never helps to say "no" without giving a reason.
Over the last year I have received a tremendous number of rather nasty (to put it mildly) e-mails from UK accounts.
Most turned out to be from an English troll, others weren't. It has left me hesitant to respond to anything a UK member writes in the forums - most times I get back a flaming put-down. Any move towards treating other forum members with courtesy is a good one - and yes, I very much include myself in that.

I don't think the Bosch appliance line is a bad bunch really compared to what you can get out there - though it is sad to see areas where they are cutting costs, e.g. the plastic tubs in the cheaper Made in Spain dishwashers.

That's my point exactly....you're so limited in your ability to fit larger items in the slimline machines, either on their own or along with your dishes. And let's face it, why wash pots and pans when you have a machine that can do it for you?? As long as the full size machine will physically fit the space you have for it, I'd go for the Miele, too, and not worry about what may go wrong with the Bosch again. Maybe if your Bosch were a full size machine, I'd say fix it, especially if you'd been happy with it to date.

If capacity is a concern

Look at the G2220 or the likes, it gives the extra 5cm of height in the cabinet and offsets the space lost by the cuttlery tray.

I've got 28cm plates, and long stemmed wine glasses, which wouldn't have fitted in the G12XX series. They fit perfectly with a little room to spare in my G2220.

Just read the latest Dutch consumer test on dishwashers. Best in the test was the Miele G1220SCU, second Bauknecht GSXP7527 and third the Bosch SGV45M12EU. Best buy was the much cheaper Ikea Renlig (what's in an Ikea name LOL) DWHB00. Worst in the test did the Whirlpool ADG9556. Which is a bit strange because I think that one must be pretty similar to the Ikea one. Consumer tests..!

I,m not sure but i think the Ikea ones ARE made by Whirlpool. Strange the Whirlpool one was worst while Ikea was better. Maybe something about the program and such. I know in the 90´s Siemens and Bosch maked a washing machine. Doesnt remeber the exact name on it. However it was the very same machine BUT the Siemens one had a 10 minutes longer wash time than the Bosch one. That alone maked the Siemens washing better.

Of course. We have kinda dumb consumer tests here in Sweden. They throw alot of coins, Bh´s, LOT of lints into the washing machines and all that cant handle that is bad in their opinion. Also machines with emanel outer drum gets a minus directly just for that. However outer plastic drum is GOOD in their opinion. Say what??????????.

Consumer Tests

I have noticed through the years that each testing institution has its priorities. A classic case in point here in Germany:
Up 'till the late 1980's we had "Stiftung Warentest" and Ökotest. SW was (and is) known for their carefully documented tests and their willingness to go to court when a manufacturer screams "foul".
They do, however, tend to downrate the overall value of an appliance if certain aspects are not in line with their opinion of what is right. The instruction manual includes seveal European languages? Lower the rating. The packaging material is not recyclable? Lower the rating. Still and all, I find them a fair guide to general levels of quality - and an invaluable resource when I look at a product made by a company (Candy/Indesit for instance) which I would normally avoid.
Ökotest for years and years rated everything which used electricity (worse, batteries) or made life more pleasant through throw away products (plastic bag sealers, for instance)very very poorly. Faced with losing their last subscri bers (even for German standards, they were "Bedenkenträger" - nay sayers) they asked their readers how they wanted the ratings done. The readers responded that they should clearly separate between quality, suitability to purpose, etc. and the environment.
So today, you can find a washer rated "very good" by SW and "extremly, absolutely terrible" by Ökotest - but when you look at the categories they come out to be very close on the relevant features and usefulness.
Who knows why the Swedish testing institution prefers plastic? I bet they do have a reason, and if you wrote to them I would be interested to know what they said.

I had a closer look at the test. It's actually quite difficult to compare because of the way the website is set up. I noticed that the Bauknecht it's cleaning ability is much less but gets more points due to the fact that it is very silent. Also the Bauknecht is more frugal with energy than the Miele although the Miele still gets an AAA rating. Interesting but also confusing, it looks like the cleaning ability in this test isn't very important.
