Bug Report #6 New "Program Computer" Thread Memory with Cycle Signal Indicator Lights

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Eric the only browser I found that automatically refreshes when you hit back-arrow is Internet Explorer, the others do not. If you use the back-arrow you have to refresh to get the latest updates and signal changes.

I do like your idea of how the text looks on the screen, I'll see how my day goes tomorrow, maybe I'll make some temporary changes and we can get everyone's input. Thanks for your help.

Firefox Page Reloading

I haven't tested to confirm this works ...

Force Firefox to ignore the cache and always reload pages:

About:Config
Locate the line browser.cache.check_doc_frequency
Change the value to 1
Other choices:
0 = check for new page once per session
2 = never check for new page data - always load from cache
3 = check for new page data when page is outdated (default) (what exactly determines "outdated" isn't clear)

Checking my setting, it's already set at 1, probably changed by one of the extensions I use.

A full refresh can also be forced on a per-page-view basis with Ctrl-F5, and I think also with Shift-Refresh.

Safari issues...

As mentioned before, I found some issues when using Mac OS 10.4.11 and Safari 3.1.2.

First, when I click one of the "new style" threads that have the indicators and then return, either by using the browser's "Previous" button or by using the "Back to Index" button on the page, there is no change: the indicator still says "Wash" and the thread# keeps having a blue colour.

My preferences are this:

Safari issues 2

When I click an old style thread, the results are different:

When I return to the index using the browser's "Previous" button I get this:

mielabor++3-17-2010-04-08-47.jpg.png

Safari issues 3

When I click an old style thread and return to the index using the "Back to Index" button on the page, I get this:

Safari issues 4

I have done the same with Mac OS 10.4.11 and Safari 4.0.3: no difference.

Then I updated with the latest version (4.0.5) of Safari for Mac OS 10.4.11: no difference.

The only difference that I have noticed when using the latest version of Safari is in the layout of the page: the old style threads have moved a little to the left.

I am using Firefox 3.6 and when I use 'Back to Index', the page refreshes correctly but it always refreshes to the top of the page so that if I had scrolled down more than a page previously I have to scroll down again. Is there a way for it to return/refresh to the same place on the page?

Thanks.

Gary

Safari issues 5

I don't know wether something has changed in the database, but I just found that visited threads now get purple links when using the "Back to Index" button on the page. (Mac OS 10.4.11 / Safari 3.1.2)

Hi everyone, I want to give an update. First Theo (mielabor), let me take one issue at a time.

#1 First, when I click one of the "new style" threads that have the indicators and then return, either by using the browser's "Previous" button or by using the "Back to Index" button on the page, there is no change: the indicator still says "Wash" and the thread# keeps having a blue colour.
OK the issue is with Mac computers on OSX 10.4.11 using Safari. Kevin reported that Firefox wasn't working on 10.4.11 as well, but he emailed me to let me know that he was mistaken as its working perfectly. I do not have access the a OSX 10.4.11 mac computer, our macs all are on 10.5 or later. So I just put in a code fix to disable link coloring in users of Safari on 10.4.11. What that will do is allow the browser to control the link colors so the links should turn to purple now if they have been viewed. I checked the system logs and thankfully it appears only 9 out of 222 members who posted in the past week are using 10.4.11 and Safari, so for those members the icons will stay stuck in wash until I can figure out the Safari issue. Theo and Keven can you please check Safari on your computer and let me know if my fix worked and the links are now changing back to purple. Thanks guys!

#2, Theo I don't understand the difference between #1 and #2, they seem the same to me.

#3 When I click an old style thread and return to the index using the "Back to Index" button on the page, I get this:
That's not an issue, the old style threads have a link in them that is no longer valid. I had a automatic re-direct set on that old link, but some users were reporting that it was causing them to get stuck and using the back arrow didn't take them back. That is very annoying as you get stuck at a certain location like on some unscrupulous porn websites that try and get you stuck on their page, (of course I've only heard about that happening on certain sites ;-) ***blushes***) I certainly don't want that here!

I want the old style threads to fall off and go into the archives so that link will be updated on them. Starting next week I'm going to start closing any open old style thread. If there are threads that are still of interest I would appreciate if you guys would start a new one with "Continued" or something like that. An example of a thread like that is the BobLoad dishwasher thread in the Deluxe Forum. Again, any old style thread is one that was created before February 24th, 2010.

I am using Firefox 3.6 and when I use 'Back to Index', the page refreshes correctly but it always refreshes to the top of the page so that if I had scrolled down more than a page previously I have to scroll down again. Is there a way for it to return/refresh to the same place on the page?
Gary I have no control over that, that is the browser. What you could do is use your back arrow and then hit refresh, it will keep you on the index exactly where you landed.

More to come.

If I go into a thread I have not read before (labeled wash), immediately click the back button, and refresh the page, it automatically highlights spin and dumps me to the bottom of the page whether I click Rinse or Spin.

That is exactly the way it suppose to work, once you've seen a thread and there are no new replies, it will take you to the bottom of the thread if you click on either Rinse or Spin. Clicking on Wash or the Thread # will take you to the top of the thread. If you hover over each button it will tell you where its going to take you.

I thought that if you opened a long thread though, that it would remember where you are in the thread? And that the rinse button would also function to bring you to the last read post of a thread. Or was that something else you were programming?

brianl's profile pictureI thought that if you opened a long thread though, that it would remember where you are in the thread?

Hi Brian, that's impossible, the system can remember that you've been in the thread and how many replies there were currently in that thread when you clicked into it, but not if you scrolled down and your eyes actually read it. So if you don't happen to scroll down and read the new replies there is no way to record that. Once new replies are added it will know that brand new replies are in the thread and it will take you to the first new one since the last time you opened it.

Sorry if this is confusing, I hope I'm stating this ok.

Videos?

The videos in the "Video Downloads" section no longer seem to work! I went to show my mother that Wisk was around in the 50s as she didn't think liquids were available until the 70's and it gave me a sudslock error! :(

Jamie, I just tried six of them and they all work fine for me.
