sorry guys when I have time to work on the site my work right now is concentrating on the Discuss-o-Mat.

I'll make a note of that and check it out at a later date.

Do the lights work only in one browser at the same time?

Hi Louis, each browser saves its own cookies, so if you read some posts in Firefox and then switch to IE or Opera it cannot know what you've read in Firefox. The threads-read information is saved locally in the form of cookies in your browsers cookie folder.

Was the problems with Firefox related to reading the forums or something else?

So I just put in a code fix to disable link coloring in users of Safari on 10.4.11. What that will do is allow the browser to control the link colors so the links should turn to purple now if they have been viewed. I checked the system logs and thankfully it appears only 9 out of 222 members who posted in the past week are using 10.4.11 and Safari, so for those members the icons will stay stuck in wash until I can figure out the Safari issue. Theo and Keven can you please check Safari on your computer and let me know if my fix worked and the links are now changing back to purple.

I'm using both 10.5 and 10.6, and Safari (version 4-mumble-mumble). It worked very well at first, but now I'm confused. The links turn to purple and the cycle lights work until I quit Safari, when I restart everything is back to "unread/blue links" and "Wash". Is the change you put in place supposed to work only on 10.4 or all versions of MacOS?

Ohhh Paulo, you're right, I just tried it on my Macbook at home and it does it to me as well. At least I can reproduce the bug. I'll work on that this weekend and see why that is happening. grrrrrr Safari = naughty!

Thank you!!

Another mac user here!

I'm using Mac os 10.6 and the current Safari. I thought I was going crazy when the lights would reset itself whenever I turned off my computer!

Nice to see so may folk use macs though!

Thanks Robert for all the hard work you do.

So I did a little internet research and I think I know why Safari and Opera are not saving the Program Computer cookies once you quit those browser. I'll see if I'm right either over the weekend or early next week, I'll let everyone know.

Resets with IE8 on Win7

Hi Robert,

I'm sure it was working fine when you first released this feature, but in the last couple of days I've noticed everything getting reset to "wash" when I restart my browser. All looks fine during the session, but it's all "unread" again when you exit and re-enter IE8.

And seeing this is my first post regarding this, like everybody else, let me say a heartfelt "thank you" for the wonderful work you do and the pleasure this site brings to so many people.

Cheers,

Nick

Ok everyone, I'm pretty sure I figured out the issue with Safari, Opera, IE8 on 7 not saving the cookies when you exit the browser. I also think Safari on older macs the lights will change colors now.

Those using Safari please try it again and let me know how its working. If this is fixed I think that this is the last of the bugs ***crosses fingers*** with the Wash-Rinse-Spin indicators. Please keep me posted.

Thanks everyone, I do appreciate your help!

It works now for me with Mac OS 10.6.2 and Safari 4.0.4. Indicator status is remembered after quitting and reopening Safari!
