And if the hot water runs blue, you know the system has frozen.

And you need to buy a copy of Norton Security for Water Heaters.

If the water heater acts up, try turning it off and then on again.

I'm willing to adapt to whatever demands a modern-day water heater requires, even though last year we just got ours...

And somehow one member of my Gassy Trio (water heater, dryer, and our aging, nearing fifty-years-old-furnace) has been less-smelly whenever I stick my nose down the laundry chute...

Thing is, I really want to know when the thing is actually HEATING it's water! It is bad enough that I had to go from 50 gallons, to 40 gallons, and the yellow Energy Guide card has the dollar-amounts of its annual usage, INCREASED!

But I paid a lot for this heater including installation charges (a friend of mine and I actually put 'er in) so I could not get the entire Digital Monitor Read-Out Pkg. Model, as much as pay $400-$500 just for sumpthin' basic...!

So, al I get is a Flashin' Status Light and a table that diagnoses what a number of flashes really means...

Actually, it looks like the Genesis device in Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan. Ricardo Montalban playing Khan made that movie.

Nomad kind of looked like a tankless water heater or boiler too.

OK....well, with all this talk of water heaters, seems I got jinxed, as mine finally broke open and started to flood the floor...there has been a drip for a while, but at first I thought it was condensation during the warm months.....but in any case.....a new one had to be installed....

not sure about your areas, but here in Jersey, they are offering rebates, the initial cost was 1050.00 for everything I needed and then subtract the mail in rebate of 500.00....so I took advantage of it and grabbed a qualifying heater....super efficient, and has settings up to 180 degrees.....it is a power vent model.....thinking of adding a second one at these prices....

with the help of a few shark bite connectors, soldering was not needed, and I had this installed in under an hour....no reason any one can't do this on their own....

the link is to the rebates for New Jersey....worth checking if other states have similar rebates.....

the first two pics are before, the next two are the new one installed.....the new one is taller, so the valve had to be raised, and the vent moved over.....but still, it was an easy replacement.....I am happy with it....actually I am getting pretty good at putting these in myself.....and saving 300.00 labor to boot

The D@#$ Government!

Is not going to be happy until everything we have in our homes has a D#$% circuit board in it!!! If I didn't have a electric water heater I would buy up 3 or 4 of the older style gas ones, I may anyway!!!!

Anyone know what the standards are for direct vent heaters and water heaters?

Can they be vented over a public sidewalk?

Can they be vented over a shared driveway that is between houses?

Where can they be vented - can you vent them up to a roof?

according to the instructions, it can go through the roof......

and as far as outside, there are minimums of ground clearances, but there are instructions of how to raise the pipe for proper clearance.....and it can still stay close to the structure.....

best thing to do is ask your public utilities or plumbing supply house, if anyone would know, they would....they put together everything I would need for a quick install....

No more drips!

Well it's done and the Wi-fi connection does work after fiddling with the econet software this morning.
The young man from Jones Cooling and Heating would make your mouth water and drool like crazy! Eye candy with a nice smile and full of fun and life.
Anyway it took me about 30 minuets to completely flush the tank to get rid of brown sediments. So let's see if I can get 24 years out of this unit like the Kenmore!
Wish me luck!
