Cabrio advice

My Nephew and his wife have a rather large family (Five boys ranging in age from 1-14) Their 15 year old Ken-pool Washer and Dryer that does about 10 loads a day is dying after a valient life.

They came home and said they decided to buy the Whirl(not my favorite brand) pool Cabrio pair. I suggested that they read this forum that there have been problems with this machine. The salesman assurd them that there were problems with the first machines, but they have redesigned the wash plate and they would love them.

Have they redesigned? I suggested if they were going to buy a new toploader to look at the F&P, otherwise go front load. They dont' want a front loader because of the smaller kids playing with the front controls.

If you experts could give some imput on the Cabrio, it is appreciated. I will be passing your advice onward.

I did notice that they changed the washplate when I stopped by Sears recently, I thought I had gone nuts for a minute, but alas, it is true! (The fact that they changed the washplate!)

I won't say they're a bad machine but if I had the choice between a top or front loading energy star compliant washer,it would be hands down on a front loader.Between the two,my own better experiences in performance as well as function has been with front loaders.We had a Sears Lady Kenmore(1963)gas washer dryer combination that was working daily 3 loads every day of the week for almost twenty years with only 2 major repairs.Then,I got an Equator EZ1000 combo that lasted 6 years w/no repair.I had the Frigimore front loaders that failed after 2 years and the washer's berrings went to shit.I had an Asko set that are still in operation in Atlanta at a friend's house and I now own an L.G.matched set that are workhorses and fun to watch!!Most friends who have seen or used my set are amazed at how low the water level is. I do admit,it took me quite a while to get used to that but in using it regularly,I learned that the P'press cycle brings more water in for wash and second and third rinses.I guess that's to keep the wrinkles out?? Anyway,I also keep a plastic jug handy to add more water if I think it needs it.The P'press cycle allows water up to the base of the window before the pump comes on to drain thinking the washer is oversudsing.The dryer dries in no time but you need to avoid using dryer sheets.They take away the sensitivity of the dryness sensore and cause it to stop before the clothes are as dry as they should be.A small load in the L.G's do that too and need to be dried on the timed cycle instead of the sensore cycle.

Cabrio/Bravos

Pulsator is correct. They have changed the washplate and electronics to address washability and issues with clothes balling, twisting and/or tangling. The Maytag Bravos is a Cabrio design washer and we've sold a few. Haven't had very many issues with them other than the washer and dryer being deeper front to back and possibly having issues fitting in smaller laundry areas such as closets with bifold doors and breezeway laundry areas without crushing venting, etc...

The plate isn't all that much different. The vane's are thinner and there are small bumps in between, its more like the F&P AquaSmart impeller. Pics of it are on Sears website here:

I'm going to get the new style impeller for my Cabrio as soon as I can talk to our Whirlpool rep. The New Oasis also has a built in heater!

It also hes a Timed Oxi dispenser. The machine is known as the Oasis HT. Also, here is a pic of the new washplate.

I don't know if there is a version of the Whirlpool Cabrio and Maytag Bravos with the newly designed washplate out but I know there will be one.

There is, we just put them on the sales floor a few days ago.

Let your folks know that most front load "New" machines come with "child-lockout" controls, both dryer and washer.
