Stan-I do believe you hit the nail squarely on the head! How perceptive. I've seen my Doctor and I'm currently taking medication to reduce my anxieties and am to see a specialist in the area of mental stress. AND all I can say is that the house with this upcoming problem is the major factor in my discomfort. I do think that age has a lot to do with it, in fact I've been reflecting on my life and things I've gone thru in my younger years. NO WAY would I ever consider them now. I need to be enjoying life and the lovely house that I helped create. I am not doing so. Regardless of how much I love the house, my health and happiness needs to come first.

And Ralph--Thanks for your input. I have attended a few town meetings at this point. I also realize that the sewer system is very much needed for the future well being of the town, its residents and the environment. Once again, I don't know what the outcome will be. I'll keep you all posted.

I tend to think that the majority of Cathedral City Cove residents are happy now that the sewer system is up and running. I'm sure your friend has valid reasons for his unfavorable feelings for the CC Cove conversion but your experience may be very different. Is your home situated where equipment will be passing by daily or is it more isolated? It's true that a sewer connection will add to the value of your house and think of the freedom...you can flush to your heart's content. Try and relax a little and take things in stride...especially situations that you only have limited control over. Did you ever check to see if your property has been reassessed for tax purposes? It may ease the financial part of the conversion.

When the septic thing was going on here in West Marin, the never-ending meetings (where some neighbors nearly came to blows) turned out to be far worse than the actual construction phase.

Still haven't dealt with the burner problem on my Flair...pulled out the Speed Heat and found burnt-out looking wires underneath. Scary. Will be back on the board for technical assistance as soon as I'm ready to tackle this. Bigger fish to fry (but not on Speed Heat!) at the moment...including installation of a mound system SEPTIC at our cabin, as our soil has failed the perk test. Sigh.

Meanwhile, I'll keep checking in to see how things are going down your way.

...can I flush to my heart's content as you write tweintubdexter, but I can also use clorox to my heart's content! Clorox is very hard on septics. I am taking your advice and calming down a bit here. Thanks. Will surely keep you all updated.

And to flairfanatic- I also had the same problem with my Flair and ended up changing it to a regular burner which works swell. And my friend Chris did a wonderful job of rewiring. When you are ready to attack it, I will be here to offer you any little tidbits that might be of help.

No Stan, unfortunately the work is not behind us at this point. Believe me, I wish I could say otherwise. The whole mess is becoming more convoluted with each passing day and residents are getting restless and some are becoming quite hot under the collar. The agencies handling the conversion can't seem to agree on some issues and now they are changing the boundary lines of the different phases and including more homes. I am really trying to stay positive but it is geeting harder by the week as I read about the "new" changes written about in the newspaper every couple of days. I just might end up putting it on the market and forget that damned town all together.

And yes, twintub, I do realize that. That would be the only saving grace if it came to me giving up and listing the house.

Not Happening

I can't believe this thread is two years plus old- being new here, I am finding alot for the first time.
Congratulations on all the work you did, Dick, on this home...I'd love to write more thoughts, but there's enough here in this thread to read, but just wanted to express my sincere sympathy for what you are going through. (A long-time friend of mine has G.A.D. - general anxiety disorder- that has, in his later years-we are two or three years behind you-beleaguered him. So I know a little of what you might going through.

You mentioned that you should be enjoying your life at your age(we agree) and if the house and the sewer issues are just mounting your anxieties, then it's understandable, despite all the wonderful work you put into this house(high fives), that your health must come first. I know that no matter how much support you get from people, with anxiety, you are alone...so telling you, "just hang in there", things will improve and by the way, so will the value of your property.." has less meaning when each minute and hour is challenging to deal with. I wish I could impart some magic and say that if you just hang in there, all will be better. But you have to live with you first, in calm and happiness.

Good luck , Dick - whatever you choose to do, in time, do it and don't lament, right? You don't look 65, incidentally. Wishing you the best....

I took a little time out....

....and celebrated my 68th! I shut all my worries out of my mind, jumped in the 442 and had a wonderful day going everywhere (all 146 miles worth)! I went down on the valley floor and had lunch with friends then on south where I visited with more friends in Indian Wells and Indio. Just a lovely day to remember.

....you were right! With my focus being on the upcoming sewer system installation I was not keeping track of the real estate market. It looks like if I did consider putting the house on the market, I could stand to make a pretty penny. Still considering my options.

At the present, I have taken on a temporary (but lucrative) position 50 miles away from home and am commuting daily. I really did need to take this on for many reasons. As such, my focus has been redirected for the time being. Will keep you all informed.

My friends at Coldwell Banker tell me houses continue to increase in value each month and that properties are moving quickly since the inventory of short sales and foreclosures is rapidly drying up. The longer you keep your home the better. You may end up finding yourself on the other side of the septic-to-sewer conversion and staying put. Congrats on the new job. A 50 mile commute isn't too bad provided you're not using the Olds 442...rocket fuel is expensive.

I will have it easy this year. I will be doing the turkey, dressing, pots, yams, and rolls--friends will be bringing veggies and assortment of pies! I'm getting smart in my golden years.

.....for your great input about Voice of Music. I have always been a fan and have really loved their changers that seem to be indistructable and just keep going and going. I had one in a Symphonic table model back in the late 50s and it ran forever.

I really like this VM table model and am really taken by it's tone and acoustic contour controls. I do think it was really a bit ahead of its time.

BTW, the model # is 557. I will be looking for a new cartridge soon.

Oh, and thanks for your nice comment on my home. I've already changed out some of the furniture and just yesterday brought home another new truckload! OMG!What am I doing.

Will take some updated pictures soon. I think you will admit that the changes only tend to enhance the home. I hope that is what you'll say! ((--::

Thanks Al for your positive comment-it is much appreciated. However, there were a couple of items I had placed about the living/dining rooms that I wasn't quite happy with. I am taking pictures on Christmas and will post a few to show you what I did. I am now completely content with the new changes and will leave as is.

I also want to thank everyone who urged me to hang on. It would have been a very tramatic experience and great loss within my soul for me to sell the house at this time. I am too connected to it and love how it makes me feel when I'm in it.
