I bought this at an estate sale over the weekend for $50. Just curious as to how old it might be. I also have the manual and the parts list. The model # is 110.6514712. On the cover of the parts list (bottom left corner) is "11-66", so I'm wondering if that's the month and the year.

That is indeed a 1965 model. If you give us the serial number off the back, we can tell you the year and week it was manufactured.

This was a prolific model. A late 1966 build date would not surprise me.

Here is my machine, a slightly later version but still a 110.651471x (x = something, I can't remember. The higher that number, the more model revisions there were). Mine was built in early 1968 and is the final version before Sears finally replaced the model.

I'm glad you rescued this!

The Elusive Childhood Kenmore

Gordon, this was the washer in the original post that I was telling you about that we had growing up with the engraved A-F, slider water-level, and self cleaning lint-filter light.

Thanks for posting this Freshwater!

Thanks, you guys!

Okay I've got the serial number. I plugged it into the website that yogitunes provided but I got the message, "Serial number does not conform to known patterns for this brand."

The official digits from the back of the washer are:
Model # - 110.6514712C00
Serial # - 12157J65C

Gordon, thanks for sharing the photo of yours. Very cool.
Tim, you are very welcome. I'm so glad I found this forum. You guys are great.

Supposedly this unit is in working order and was used fairly recently, but I haven't tried it yet and won't get the chance until I move into my new home on the 24th! ^_____^ I would love to find a matching dryer some day ...

Hi Rhonda, Congrats on your purchase and Welcome to AW.org!

I hope you find this site informative and interesting enough to come visit often!

Can you post a photo if the interior of the washer (lid open)?

Thanks much!
Kevin

Thanks, Kevin! I will definitely be spending some time here. The house I am buying has some old appliances that I will need some info on from you smart people.

Here are some photos on the interior. It definitely needs a good cleaning and my apologies for the bad photography (I'm using my phone). The inside is white, but appears to be grey because the washer is still in the back of my truck and it's parked in the shade.

Rhonda -

Thanks for the info. update. You said:

The official digits from the back of the washer are:
Model # - 110.6514712C00
Serial # - 12157J65C

I am betting that the serial 12157J65C is actually 12157J650. If so, that would be production in St. Joe Michigan (J) in the 50th week of 1966. That translates into mid December, 1966 which agrees perfectly with the date on your literature.

Other than a little bit of cosmetic difference, my machine does not have the filtering light. It has the later agitator in gold with the gold scrubber cap.

In case you are ever shopping for parts, the C00 in your model number is not really part of the official model number. I'm not sure why Sears did that, other than to denote color (C for Coppertone), but the full model is 110.6514712. I think mine is 110.6514715.

We're looking forward to your test results!

Gordon

"I am betting that the serial 12157J65C is actually 12157J650."

That makes perfect sense because the serial number looked like it had been stamped several times. Guess they just couldn't get that "O" to come out right and gave up on it.

Again, thanks so much for the info! I really didn't expect to get so many answers so quickly.

P.S. Is there a way to get email notifications when somebody makes a post? Or is that only possible for upgraded members?

Hi Rhonda,

As far as I know, no.    You'll just have to check back to see if anyone has replied.   If you do choose to go for the membership upgrade (only $12 for the year, less for less then a year), there are easier ways to tell if a thread has been replied to or not.

If you have not seen the info on what the upgrade gives you, click the link below.

Does anyone know how high in the line this washer might have been? It seems to my eyes that it's only a step down from Lady Kenmore, given that all settings but water level are made automatically by timer position. Only things missing are the buttons to control the settings and timer dial position.

Oooooh, Rhonda! You're a natural--those "money shots" were perfect. That's a fine looking machine.

Welcome. I think you'll find these guys and gals are the BEST!

Tub Color

Did all Kenmore's come with white tubs? For some reason I thought the Lady Kenmore's had white tubs and the lower models had blue speckled tubs.

Just curious...

Great machine Rhonda. Welcome to the club.

This washer in the line, and white baskets

This model is at least 3/4 up the line, but it is not second to the Lady. This is considered (by model number anyway) a 70 series machine. There seems to have been one alphabet and one standard 70-series each year. There would have been at least one possibly two 80/800 series machine(s) before the Lady K as well.

As far as 1965s go, I have both the 65 Lady K and the '65 800. The 800 is a little easier to use as it has five manually selectable temps. There may have been an alphabet 800 that year too, I'm not completely sure. There are always hold-over models from previous years too...

Sometimes all too complicated. Sears wasn't selling a line of cars, just washers.

As to the white baskets, in the 1960s, they seemed to be used in 70-series models and up. By the seventies, I think they were LK only (1971-1975). By the late 70s tubs were blue/gray speckled with white, or beige speckled with white, the beige being in the fancier machines. I am not aware of any pure white until the 1983 line came out with the double coated white in several models including the LK.

This made me zoom in closer. Beautiful specimen it is too. Yes these were the slightly higher end 70 series or 700 series models. The dryer mate to this would have the full width door. The standard 70 series model for 1965 did not have the bleach dispenser or scrubber either. It does have a backlit dial though, which must look awesome when lit.

Congrats on finding this one, and Macboy...glad you found your childhood washer.

Have a good one,
James

Who knew there was so much to learn about a washing machine! I just hope I can figure out how to operate it ... O_o ha

Thanks again, everybody!
