Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I remember Whirlpool knocking Maytag off the CU pedestal because that was when I was actively pursuing a replacement for my mom's '67 Signature 18, aka THE Worst, Noisiest, Least Reliable Washer Known to the Civilized World.

Much as I wanted to replace the POS Signature with a Maytag, there appeared to be a fair trade situation with that brand, and prices either weren't posted in ads, or if they were, the stripped-down A106 costed as much as a feature-rich Whirlpool. There was no way my dad was going to pay the ridiculously high price for the model of Maytag that CU used in their tests.

We ended up with a nearly TOL Kenmore, which lasted 25 years with only the need for a belt and filter replacement in all that time. It served my mom for nearly four times as long as the Signature, which needed a new transmission after barely a year in service. God, how I despised that machine.
