Candy 137D

Hi. It’s been a long time since I posted on here. Well, I recently purchased a brand new Candy 137D, it’s from about 1979. The guy who sold me the washer told me he purchased a house with loads on furniture still left in.

Hi Paul. How exciting a find! The mind also boggles as to the back story of the house where time stood still!

I remember this machine. My friend on the Isle of Wight had one in the eighties. She used to scare me - as when she felt the spin had been on long enough she would switch off, open the door and stop it rotating (coasting down) by hand! They don't mess about on the Isle of Wight ;-) Either the interlock was bust, or there wasn't one, or she figured out a way of tricking it .

It's an induction 400rpm machine isn't it? Love the water level Looks as though the door seal is still doing it's job and hasn't deteriorated too badly?

Hi Paul

It’s great to see this machine still in its box with the free samples. It reminds me of a machine that one of my friends parents had when I was growing up but there’s was an earlier one. It still had the coloured buttons but they were smaller and the panel was a turquoise blue. It used to drain into the sink which I always loved to watch.

Looks like it has survived really well. Enjoy

Great buy Paul

Back in my college days (25 years ago) there was one in a friends house when they moved in, the bearings were so worn the drum had seized, it could be just rocked up and down. I remember taking the back off and seeing the weights around the drum pulley to vary the drive ratio, so assumed it was a higher spin speed model. Ideal for smaller loads, enjoy it
