Cascade 155 OZ with Phosphates

This was a shocker to me! Had to go to the local grocery and decided to pop into the local thrift store Value Village.
Perused through the store as usual. Got to the front of the store and saw this huge box of Cascade! What? I know.....
I picked it up to read the contents and saw that it was 155 OZ, 9.68 pounds, and 7.4% Phosphorous. $2.00 on the box so I said sure why not. When I went to check out the cashier asked if I wanted more. Of course I asked what more? She brought be behind the counter and there was 15 other boxes!!!! She said they would sell them all to me for $20 because the manger said that no one will buy these.
So yea, I bought them all. I have never seen a box of Cascade this large...much less in a Thrift Store!!!!
Carted them all home. Can't wait to try them.

Man I wish I was there with you when you bought those! My stash is running low and I've been on the lookout for Cascade with phosphates. Congratulations on the find! You're going to be very happy with the results.

I have enough Cascade with my stashes to last me till I am 70. If I make it that long! I have been very lucky in the Atlanta Surrounding areas.
I just can't figure out who or why they would have given this to a thrift store...
The check out girl looked at me like I was crazy when I said I would take them all!

Each box had a trial sample of Dawn Liquid on top. Original Sent....whatever that means.

A few weeks ago a friend of ours told us that a Family Dollar store had a whole bunch of old Cascade in stock. So the next day we went over there.
True to their word, they had a bunch of it. The 16 tab packs with Dawn, the medium size boxes and a whole bunch of Walmart Great Value DW detergent. All with phosphates. Cascade had 8% and the Great Value had 6.4%. We stocked up again with 10 paks and boxes.

It's going on two years since the phosphate ban began with most people thinking their dishwasher was broke. One of our neighbors spoke of replacing her dishwasher because "it wasn't cleaning as good as it used to, it's leaving spots on everything". So Karen gave her a box of the Great Value DW detergent and told her to see if that works better.
What did this woman say a few weeks later? "That detergent you gave me fixed my dishwasher so I don't have to buy a new one yet". It all went right over her head!

Yes, that is a size similar to what I've bought at the local Grocery Outlet for about $7 a box. So you got a good deal.

I also stocked up on the stuff. It works great. I did find some caking in some of the boxes. I just removed the clump and resealed the box so it could pour more easily. No big whoop.

You'll want to keep the boxes in a cool, dry storage spot. Dry is more important than temp.

My find wasn't as good as yours, but not too bad I guess. Three boxes of Cascade Complete w/Bleach Hydroclean Action, (whatever that means), 6.9% phosphate or 1.1 grams per tablespoon. 75 oz./4.6 lbs. at $8.00 per box. And 3 boxes of the same thing w/o the bleach at the same price. $48.00 total.

Do you guys think it was worth it. Does the pre July 2010 formula work better than the current kind spiked with STTP?

My mother has been using Finish mixed half and half with STPP in her KDS-20 and has been getting good results. No yucky build up of that nasty grey residue under the bottom edge of the door. She doesn't have a water softener either.

My sister has a 1996 Sears TOL machine w/ water heat and Sani-Rinse, but it has the cheap plastic interior. I don't think she's attentive to adding STTP with her detergent and she gets that terrible grey build-up under the door edge. They're not as attentive to scrapping the dishes either. They pretty much just put the dishes in there as they are, which is nice if it works, but I don't know if the machine combined with the hard water and lack of phosphates can clean and suspend that much dirt.

I go over to their house sometimes and wipe underneath the edge of the door and the grey residue comes out. My B/I/L sees it and says, "My God, what is that?" I tell him it's food, grease and hard water residue that the machine can't handle. He doesn't seem too pleased.

Am I correct in my assessment of the condition. I know that 1996 Sears machine doesn't have the power that my Mom's good old KDS-20 has. You can just tell by the sound. Those new machines aren't insulated any better than the old ones. I've had both brands apart. There's no comparison between the machines IMO.

Porcelain might make more racket than plastic and I think the bottom panels are insulated, as where the KitchenAids are not, but I think most of the sound comes from the more powerful motor. You can just tell by listening up close that the KitchenAid is working harder. Sorry. Got off the subject of detergent.

Good find, Brent!  If you can find a way to seal the extra boxes from the air, they will last longer without clumping and caking.  STPP & other ingredients degrade as it's exposed to air, humidity, etc.  I put my stash of phosphated Cascade in large ziplock bags, probably not completely airtight but better than nothing.

I've been buying

Institutional Cascade with is chlorinated and phosphated. I get it from ReStockIt.com. The stuff works great but you have to be careful not to use too much.

 I was going to give my stash to my sister in law because it was becomming a little hard but I thought what the heck I got a big Tupperware modular mate and dumped the boxes in that to keep it freah. I also have some that is vaccum sealed with the food saver the only thing is that it crushes the boxes but I think that you can seal it air tight without the vaccumn and it would be good seems that we can still get the phosphated Cascade here in Memphis in some stores with older stock. I have also spotted some of the Finish in the dispenser on clearence at the Family Dollars here.
